Hi,

After much success installing a9hl & keeping the Gateway part on my son's N3ds I tried to do follow the 3ds.guide process for my daughter's 3DS XL console.

It is running Sysnand 4.4.0-10E and Emunand GW3D 11.2.0-35E

Ifollowed the steps and created CTRTransfer on the root of the internal SD card. Moved the 2 files indicated in there and copied SafeCtrTransfer.dat on the root of the internal SD card as well.

I copied the SafeCtrTransfer.nds to the usd card in the blue card and launched it.
Several choices there:
>4.x SafeCtrTransf<
4.x DG Safe...
6.x Safe...
4.x NDG Safe...
4.x rop...
4.x DG rop...
6.x rop...
4.x NDG rop...

I chose the first one and very quickly got writing success & verifying success. A to exit.
System wants then to turn off the console or return home. Tried both processed and when following the process:
Reboot the system, then go to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then “Profile”, then “Nintendo DS Profile” all I get is a Grey screen.

What did I dio wrong ? I hope I can recover and I will then have my youngest kid's console do do afterwards.
Thanks.

Sometimes the screen can mess up when downgrading to 2.1.0. It's completely normal. It will fix itself when you finish everything the guide tells you.

  1. If the exploit was successful, you will have booted into SafeCTRTransfer (I am not seeing this)
So I cannot go on with the next steps:

Section III - CTRTransfer
  1. Allow the SafeCTRTransfer initialization and safety checks to proceed automatically
    • If you get an error, ensure you have all files in the correct locations and that you have enough free space on your SD card as detailed in Get Started
  2. When prompted, input the key combo given to confirm CTRTransfer to 2.1.0
    • This process will take some time
    • This process will automatically create a backup of your device’s NAND at /ctrtransfer/<serialnumber>_nand.bin

I thought I had to use the mset because of the note regarding 4.4.0-10E. I thought I could not use browser because of this. But if I can, I'll go with browser since I have already tries mset a few times and still getting the grey screen.

I had forgotten to overwrite the loader.dat file (was using Gateway's). My mistake.

I have now gotten to step 9 of the a9hl process : Update your device by going to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then going all the way to the right and using “System Update”
I'm a bit scared because I want to keep the Gateway part and if I got this right, one should not update to the latest version.

So should I first follow this https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/ before updating ?

I personally suggest that you setup an EmuNAND and unlink it from your SysNAND and use that for GW.

Keep in mind that if you want to go for a SysNAND-Only setup, you cannot update past 11.2. If you update to 11.3 and boot GW Mode on your SysNAND, then you will either brick or lose A9LH.

I am willing to do as advised but what you are saying is all Greek to me. So from step 8 that I have complete from https://3ds.guide/installing-arm9loaderhax, should I go to step 9 or what exactly should I do ?
BTW, I am also willing to install Freeshop afterwards.

I can also install Poochy's cia I know this is not updating past 11.2.
Thanks

In short - don't touch gw until end.
Backup sdcard
Load up emunand9[or equivalent] - create emunand - load up emunand - run tinyformat - restore sdcard backup - use gw

Plus Gateway doesn't support 11.3 yet, so if he wants to use Gateway whether on sysNAND or emuNAND he has to stay on 11.2 or below.

Hello,

So i have the same problem as the person who started this thread. I have a Nintendo 3DS (Old) on 4.5.0-0E and have a DSTWO flashcart. I was following the guide on 3ds.guide but i always get stuck with a grey screen after i try the 4th step of section II (SafeCTRTransfer (MSET)):

Reboot the system, then go to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then “Profile”, then “Nintendo DS Profile”.

Is there anyway to solve this ?

Thanks.

(It's my first time on a forum)

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem as the OP. I have version 6.2.0-0E with R4i SDHC flashcart. I too was following the guide on 3ds.guide but I have the exact same problem. I don't understand what OP said about replacing Launcher.dat, I have tried putting the Launcher.dat from SafeCTRTransfer onto the SD Card but that does nothing for me. I hope someone has a solution.

Thanks guys!

Apparently it's a bug. "This will be fixed soon by an update to mid-kid/CakeHax, which has a problem with SafeCTRTransfer.". But isn't it possible to use an older version of SafeCTRTransfer?
