you really think the switch would cost 250 to produce? they sell it for 70 bucks more in store. you really think that this small margin is really it?

A price drop? Probably not. I do hope for a revised model though within 2 years though. I love my switch but there are some aspects of it that I'm just not confident in. Then again, doesn't it normally take a while before console price drops occur after launch anyway?

Shield TV is still $200, so the cheapest I imagine the cost of manufacturing that to be is $150. The IPS panels on Switch plus the battery and portable form factor probably add $60 - $75 to that. The rest is likely added from the joy cons, those also being entirely new to manufacturing.

This is possible for minor revisions, but I wouldn't expect anything major for 3-4 years. The hardware is as powerful as it gets for this form factor right now.

Nvidia may be selling the Shield at cost to avoid a writedown. The Shield never took off, so Nvidia might be sitting on excess stock and have yet to make back what they paid developing and manufacturing them.

Didn't they discontinue Nvidia Shield TV whatever right as Switch started development? So yea I'd agree they sold them at a loss. Probably to get ride of the chipsets.

Anybody got a look at the source article yet? It appears to be behind a paywall and I am certainly not paying for a Japanese news site. Should it be a decent bill of materials and teardown as part of it all but looking at the teaser stuff I am not expecting much.

I don't see a cut price on the switch anytime soon unless the sales tanks they would have to react in some way

Well, if they do a portable only one, they could use a cheaper and weaker chip
It wouldn't work because of the compatibility on the base system on handheld mode, it would make sense to use a better chip like the tegra "x2", or use a better manufacturing process imo

Just like the 2ds.
Exactly like the 2DS. If the 2DS came out at the same time as the 3DS it would've cannibalized 3DS sales. Same with a Switch TV. I think it's very easy for Nintendo to stick the X1 inside a bare-bones vented console and throw in a single Pro controller, to give us a console they can sell for $150-$200 USD. But it would be suicide to launch it so soon after the portable.
