Hi all,

I've taken the plunge and decided to hack my wiiu. I have a black (UK) Zelda special edition,32 Gb.
First thing I did was disable update access last week by dns routing, so i'm still on 5.5.1.

After trawling through various guides, I settled on the one at http://wiiu.guide/get-started.

So, new 64Gb SD card, formatted to fat32. Copied all the files and folders across as specified in the guide. No problem.

I tried to opt for the method for using Brain Training which I got some time ago, but I got an error message along the lines of "rom missing". Obviously, I cant redownload it, as I've disabled eshop access.

No matter, I simply went the other route.

So, boot up the homebrew launcher, load mochi CFW, which starts to run and then brings up 'there is a problem with system memory' and error 160-0103.

Restarting the process obviously makes no difference. Help please? As the title says, I'm new to wii u hacking, so unsure where to go next.

Thanks for your time.

Well of course im going to recommend my noob guide. It's stickied. Read through it and let me know if you have questions

BTW just disable blocking to redownload brain age. There is no risk of system update right now

Ok, I'll give it a nose through later, thanks.

And are you sure about the lack of update? Theres a message currently on the system saying an update failed in the last couple of days.

That red x just means your DNS blocking is working. There is no newer firmware than 5.5.1. Trust me.

Cool beans. Just thought I'd double check.

Fingers crossed then. I'm gonna take my tablets and work through your guide now.

Thanks for the help.

Ok, so far, I like the guide. Nicely straightforward.

So I've redownloaded brain training and successfully installed haxchi as per your guide.

I then ran haxchi to check if it was running ok before doing the long nand backup. It starts with the loading screen and jingle, then goes to the same 160-0103 error screen again.

Is this correct or is there an issue with my console?

If you only get that error when you try to boot Mocha CFW, then I would assume that you have Mocha CFW set to use redNAND, and that your redNAND is corrupted. You mentioned making a NAND dump, so I would think the above statement is true.

Depending on what you're doing, you probably won't ever need redNAND. redNAND was mostly made for developers to tinker with their consoles without fear of destroying them by accident (or on purpose, but who does that?).

Don't look at redNAND. You don't need it. You're not a dev.
Just set Haxchi to autoboot to sysmenu. Viola, no system error. sysNAND with region-free and sigpatches removed.
If you want to know more, give my guide a read. I explain most of things here.
Also follow Kafluke's recommended Wii U soft-modding path. I really recommend it.

Thanks very much for the quick replies guys. It's much appreciated.

I'll give this a go a bit later when I can get downstairs.

Thanks again.

Eugh, this things is persistent. I'm not sure if I've got lost.

I had a good read of your guide,Kelek, thanks. Its well written.

The reason I think I'm lost is that I'm unsure where to go next, or rather where to go back to.
As it currently stands, I downloaded brain age, went through kafluke's guide until installing haxchi where after finding brain age, it did whatever it needs to do.

I tried running haxchi at that point to test, and thats when the error occurred. Now, going back and trying to reinstall haxchi does the brain age patch ok, then at the end comes up withthe error again.

Going further back and trying to reinstall app store, it runs fine, then again at the end, the same error pops up.

Last night I had a pop at running sosme installed games. Super Mario 3D World (digital version) ran fine, whereas Unepic loads up the splash screen, loads a bit further then the error rears its head.

Naturally, each time this error pops up it can only be cleared by restarting the unit on the console itself.

I'm really sorry I'm being a noob with this, and I hope I've detailed things as clear as I can. i'm running through a bit of a haze of painkillers at the moment, so by all means if you need me to clarify any clumsy text, do ask.

Again, many thanks for your time in this.

EDIT: Forgot to add, according to 'apps' list when I fire up homebrew launcher, it says the following are installed: wup installer (needs update), saviine, homebrew launcher, wuphax, hb app store, cbhc, haxchi.

I also note that brain age icon is not showing up on the wii u desktop. Is that correct?

Hope that helps.

What error are you getting?
By running Haxchi, you're launching HBL [or sysmenu] then you're trying to load any sort of homebrew and it runs fine?
What error you get after splash screen of UnEpic? If it's "System Memory" error then you might have faulty hardware.

The error im getting is that system memory error 160-0103. It popped up after trying to go through wiiuguide's process of hacking. At the point of installing haxchi, it wouldnt patch brain age as it neeeded a more recent download of it.

Then the error popped up as it was exiting. Now it seems to be on most things exiting. Although as I mentioned, super mario 3d world ran and closed fine.

Never saw the error before that. I havent tried using any homebrew or copied games yet (although thats obviously the intent). I wanted to get the hack out of the way first.

So am I screwed then?

Edit: just running through some other games to see how they behave, and it seems to be any time the console tries to save. Pier solar runs fine except when you try to make a save file. Then the error pops as usual.

Man, your console seems to be dying now...
Um last thing, eject your SDCard and see if it's back to normal.

Nah, still persists with the sd card out.

Well.... shit. Couldn't come at a worse time. But hey, my sincere thanks for trying.

Nah, not going to happen. Can't afford it and it'd probably be more prudent to pick up a second hand unit in the near future anyway.

I appreciate the thought though

Hmm, small update. Thinking about super mario 3d world working flawlessly and saving too, made me wonder whether it is a flash memory fail.

So I've bitten the bullet and wiped the system completely. Lets see how it turns out. Ive got nothing to lose.

Well, it restarted ok, and created new profiles, etc. But the problem pops up at various points of running games and programs.

Pretty safe to conclude now its flash memory's buggered.

Thanks again for all the help guys.
