Looking for a Vita that I can take on flights and have fun in hotel rooms.

I am looking on ebay/craigslist and want to know what I should look for. Obviously I want to be able to run backups. I don't want to have to lug anything around except the charger and the device itself.

Is an 8gb card enough? Or should I splurge for the 16gb?
Will both the slim and the original work?
Do I have to make sure it's below 3.6 firmware?

Anything else I need to know before I start looking?

Any general advice for pricing?

3.60 firmware, depends on model i guess... (wifi only, 3g, slim) Probably less than $200 for the system, memory cards are expensive. I got a 32GB and paid over $50 for it. 64GB is like over $100.

Best i can tell you, also backups aren't perfect yet and not all games will work. Just a note.

The fact that people do want a firmware lower than 3.60 Makes for increased prices due to demand. So i be careful for scalpers. You should least pay 20% of what the pervious person paid for it.

OK good to know. So will 3.6 give me the ability to play backups of the games, as well as the games that I've gotten from PS+ (have had a PS4 for 6 months or so).

Avoid the model PCH-2006. A.K.A the colored slim models. They come with 3.61 pre-installed. I learned this the hard way when I purchased a new glacier white slim recently.

Currently you can access playstation network on henkaku, so yes, you can download the playstation store "purchased" items. :)

You also can download it onto a ps3 and then copy to psvita if for some reason psn isn't accessable on vita with henkaku in future. (exmaple, spoofing is broke due to firmware update being pushed)

This is wonderful to know. I was just looking at a blue one on craigslist and almost sent an email.

Oh wonderful - That old PS3 I have laying around will get some use!

The storage unit on the PS3? Or the Vita?
accessing the ps store on psvita, you need enough space to download game and any updates along with it.

accessing the ps store on ps3, you need enough space on the HDD, to download game. Then you copy to the vita, your memory card still needs enough space to install the game.

Still i was just pointing out ps4 does not support any operations for vita so you won't find any vita games on ps4 when accessing ps store. Only ps3 supports operations to copy games to the vita. That was all

Use ebay and buy used, i wouldn't pay more than $120 for the vita itself.

make sure you get them to take a picture of the firmware to be sure its on 3.60 or below.

and 8gb isn't really enough imo, get at least 16.

3.60 firmware and below is the only prerequisite, really.

The PSV-1000 series has a better looking screen, but it has less battery life and is physically larger than the PSV-2000.

I found one with a firmware in the 2's. When you say below 3.6, does that mean anything below 3.6, or is there also a minimum as well?

What about multiple 8GB cards? If I found a vita that had an 8gb card, would adding the lesser expensive 8 be as good or would you spend the extra cash on a single card?

Firmware 3.60 is the best and only firmware for "playing vita backups" with. If it's below 3.60 you can manually update to 3.60.

I've got one on the way with 3.6 and Henkaku already on it. I've only got a few days once I get it, before I'm going on a 2 week work trip. Long flights and lots of hotel room staying. I want to be entertained.

Besides loading a few Vita backups, what do most people do in order to maximize their entertainment?

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
