Yes but remember Nintendo makes a loss on every unit sold they only make money back through selling games, marketing etc.. selling the actual console does not bring in much revenue to Nintendo that has always been known same goes for Playstation & Microsoft.
That's a fair point, however I'm willing to bet that the technology in the 3DS was developed long before the system prototype was made so its old R&D therefore must be a lot cheaper . I believe Shiguru Miyamoto keeps a Gameboy advance prototype from the 90's that has 3D screen in his desk drawer claiming it to be his favourite console. and then we have the Virtual Boy. (despite all this 3D still doesn't work that well)

So Although that is true what you say for the most part. I would still take, 10% or even 5% profit on, £279.99 times 1.5 Million, And lets not mention the fact that the switch is a re branded Tablet. Due to this fact I'm also willing to bet the profit margins are higher than 10% and probably higher than the margins on actual physical software.
And as for marketing well it seems to be non existent since the DS and wii days. Most game media and even shops sites don't even have a Nintendo section anymore, I mean WTF they have turned into the TurboGrafx of the 2000 with tiny sections in shops and barley being mentioned.
Instead they like to befriend youtube people who don't swear, are family friendly and are basically fan boys.

God forbid if you swear or give honest reviews or mention Nintendos bad practices, instead expect a copyright ban ?? is that money well spent? they are like a bunch of gangsters with a protection racket haha

Lets face it Nintendo has been in the game since the beginning (excuse the pun), by now, they should have some very well established relationships with chip manufactures and hardware manufactures. and a R&D department which should be brimming with technology and creative minds. If they for some reason don't have those things then they only have them self to blame for severing all their ties and wasting all their money in the early 90's.

Oi, buy that new system that has like... 1 original title and ports of our previous console that no one cares about and like only 2 - 3 good games coming out next year!!!

VS

Get this 6 year old system with over +100 great games, 100's of Retro games and Homebrew apps that you can play at home, shithouse or even this guys candy truck you just got in!

I mean...
N3DS/O3DS is still worth it.

That's the trouble with Brum, everyone thinks there the big man so you have to be careful how you speak and look at someone else its a punch up! its quite sad actually :(

Is that Southern on the left or on the right on the bottom of the map you come from cause from experience on the left of the map are some of the nicest people you might ever meet in the uk, on the right of the map, not necessarily "fairey's" just depends on which part, London, very promising I luv London! I would like to move to London at some point in my life but we have quite a big family that live in the West Midlands so it works out for us all of course some also live in London, which is why it pulls me :)

Yes my signature, thanks for noticing!. I did have a lot of trouble to begin with, getting it vetted, the only reason I did it was because I noticed everyone here had the same sort of signature so I thought it was a standard issue for a gaming forum, its not too glout or show off in anyway for me. I'm quite proud of my collection personally, if you want me to be really honest about them, yes I do luv them all I take gaming in general quite serious apart from PC gaming, I lost interest after I found out it was a continues battle with upgrades..., it seems dead money after a while, which never ends!

Your Sigi, rock on, that's looking very promising be proud! :)

Haha dont worry mate I lived ooop north for a bit, I know your further down but there is reputation up there too, I used to put on a Yorkshire accent just to blend in and in fear of being singled out when I was first up there, silly once I realised how nice everyone is up there. Sadly I'm not in Cornwall or somerset, I live amongst the super rich here in Dorset while I'm sat trying to rub my 2 sticks together haha and I'm not talking about these sticks :switch: hahaha (one day)

London is a good experience, I loved it when I lived there, not sure I would go back though, bit hectic for me now. I suggest trying it at least, Its very diverse and you can learn so much from the different cultures and people that are there.
I would always encourage people to break out from their home towns, Its a big world out there so much to see and learn not to mention the game expos and I believe a Nintendo Store WOW!!!! :teach: DO IT ;)

and yes I just started doing my sigi this week, in the same vain as you no doubt, have to add my Wii, Dreamcast, Gameboy DMG and Original Snes although only the wii is hacked. I would really like a hacked ps3 or just a PS3 mainly for MGS and I dont mean MGS V.
Back in the day My 'best' mate never gave me back all my snes games (nowadays we are talking serious money for some of those games) I had at least 25 games all big name titles. most of them worth a bit now. Cannon Fodder, St Fighter II boxed, Zelda Boxed, Secret of Mana Boxed, Mario Kart Boxed, Contra III the list goes on. I begged him for months to get them all back finally he gave me back Donkey kong Country (unboxed) and 2 Copies of Donkey Kong country 3 both unboxed ? I was like WTF still makes me annoyed thinking about it he even made his frail old dad to deliver them. I never spoke to him again after that. anyway thats why I got into emulation. I misses those games so much Especially "Mystical Ninja" I nearly cried when that came on the eshop lol

But now I have the whole world of 90's gaming at my fingertips hohohohohohohoho *strokes white cat*

The switch has no games yet because its new the 3ds does but its not going to be getting any more new games really.
I never said it wouldn't get games, I said it doesn't have games.
Laying down $300 on a promise is a terrible idea. And from the looks of it, it's not even a good promise.

Looking through the list of planned games, I can find 10 exclusive titles. Here they are:

Arms
Bit Boy!! Arcade Deluxe (re-release of Bit Boy Arcade with additional content)
Fire Emblem (no information)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (re-release of Mario Kart 8 with additional content)
No More Heroes (no information; potentially not even exclusive)
Splatoon 2
Super Bomberman R
Super Mario Odyssey
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
(re-release of Street Fighter II with additional content)
Xenoblade 2 (no information)

Of these 10 titles: 3 are re-releases of previous titles, and 3 more have no information available.
Very few people are going to be interested in all 4 of the remaining titles. In fact, I personally think only 2 are worth looking into myself. And I'm certainly not going to throw down $300 for 2 potentially good games.

Give it 2, 3, maybe even 4 years before you go out and get a Switch. The planned library is obviously lacking, and the (admittedly, likely over-dramatized) hardware issues need to be addressed first.

Seriously switch will be way better when its hacked and has more games it has console power unlike the 3ds crappy graphics.

Don't tell me what to do. I want to get that Pikachu N3DS XL. Perhaps another one under the assumption that the next main series pokemon games will be a double package, still expecting/hoping for Sinnoh remakes.

Why would I shell out for a Switch when I'm happy with the games I've got, plus a huge backlog of Wii U games as well?

Right now, the only game that's a must buy is BoTW. Other than that, it's not worth the $399.99 + taxes for a Switch. (eg. no games, no fun stuff, and definitely no cfw on it).

I used to be like the op, I used to think that if you weren't sitting on the bleeding edge it wouldn't be good enough. Sitting on the bleeding edge of technology is nice, sure, and you get first access to software, features, ect but you also end up doing a lot of waiting. Waiting for a decent software library, waiting for features, waiting for nintendo to work out the kinks of the system, that's what you're in for if you buy a switch now. Not to mention, at some point in the next year or so I bet there is going to be some sort of hardware revision that fixes some issues that were not caught during the pre-market tests (the dock screen scratching problem for example).

Early adopters are suckers now, don't be a sucker and wait.

Not mentioning future releases for 3ds rn the current library is pretty amazing already. If you haven't gotten a 3ds at this point you're really missing out on a lot, as stated above it has a countless amount of amazing franchises as well as access to previous handheld games. You must understand the 3ds is not solely made up of Pokemon, Smash, and MK7. That being said the Switch is great too if you want to play Zelda or some party games with more to come. I'd get a 3ds if you want access to a huge library right off the bat. But hell if you got the money, why not get both ;)

I'm genuinely curious as to how many people had been considering upgrading from an old 3DS to a New 3DS that still haven't done so by this point. This seems like the kind of PSA thats only relevant to like 4 or 5 people here, if that.
This PSA doesn't help anyone. They are discouraging people from upgrading when they should actually upgrade. The old3DS is indeed old and the hardware is showing it's age. Games are starting to lag something horrible on the old3DS. People should be buying new3DS's while they are still exploitable or while they are still on the market in general.
No reason to get a new 3ds now unless you want to emulate ps1 games and stream or play new 3ds exclusives there's not many.

i'd say... if you've never owned a 3ds, grab a 2ds or a cheap o3ds so you can at least experience the library. if you have a (working) o3ds already, not really any point in getting a new one unless you REALLY want to play xenoblade on the go

Or play games with proper FPS :P
Seriously, the old3DS has really started to lag something horrible. Hyrule Warriors is completely unplayable on the old3DS, Pokemon S/M lags horrible in battles and Double Battles suffer MASSIVE framerate drops. Smash and MH both work, but dat load time and still mild FPS drops.
Honestly the hardware is indeed showing it's age and users are missing out on a better experience.

Trust me, I used to think the old3DS was fine, until I got a new3DS.

sure, if i wanted to blow an extra $60 to improve the performance of a few games, i'd go for it. if you're concerned with budget, though, i don't see the point

**this assumes you can't find a good deal on a n3ds

I mean its not worth it if you don't like the new 3ds only games the PlayStation emulation is not perfect if you want better emulation you can get something that can emulate ps1 games for less than buying a new 3ds. Sun and moon still lag on 3ds not as bad as old 3ds but it does not get rid of all the lag so yeah if you got an old 3ds don't waste your money and buy a cheaper android handheld for emulation.

The OP is saying you dont need a new 3ds if you already have the old one. The new one has like 5 new 3ds exclusives and has ability to stream with ntr viewer, but if you dont see yourself streaming or playing those what 5- exclusive then there isnt a point in getting it
