As long as you use luma and you dont use an external firmware.bin. If you dont know what that is you're fine.

Yup it's completely safe to update. The only thing that you have to update is the CIA Version of HBL and the payload for it.

But if you are unsure be sure you have an up to date backup. If not, make one.

I make my backup always in 2 parts. The first one is to copy my whole SD Card to my PC and the second is a NANDmin.bin backup. Just follow these steps for the NAND Backup:

1. Boot into Hourglass9
2. Choose "SysNAND Backup/Restore"
3. Choose "SysNAND Backup
4. Do the Button Combo when prompted
5. Choose the Name (I always choose "NANDmin.bin")
6. Wait
7. Turn your 3DS off after the Backup is done (DONT TURN IT OFF WHILE DOING A BACKUP)
8. Copy "NANDmin.bin" and "NANDmin.bin.sha" from the "files9" folder to the PC

Thats about it. Come back if you still have problems!

How do I get into hourglass 9? Is it a button combo at system boot? Also how do I update HBL CIA? Thanks for your help!!!!
