The Caligula Effect coming west on May 2

Atlus will be publishing Caligula, a Japanese PlayStation Vita title as The Caligula Effect in North American and Europe on May 2, 2017. The game's story is written by Shin Megami Tensei series veteran Tadashi Satomi, who was behind games such as Persona 1, 2, and Brave Story: New Traveler. The game features over 500 recruit-able characters to use in combat, as they try to escape a virtual world. The game will release as a digital-only PlayStation Vita title.

The students at Kishimai High School enjoy a blissful existence filled with classes and daily performances by the intoxicating virtual idol μ (pronounced myoo). While many students are quite content with this idyllic lifestyle, a few of them have uncovered a terrifying truth about their lives: everything is a lie. The “perfect” world they inhabit is actually Mobius, a virtual reality construct created and ruled by μ. The protagonist discovers this secret and must join with a group of other enlightened students, who call themselves the Go-Home Club, to escape. However, to do that they must fight brainwashed students called Digiheads, battle nefarious musicians, confront μ, and face their innermost traumas in order to truly become free.

Key Features
  • A strategic battle system – The game features a unique battle system called “Imaginary Chain” that makes encounters an exercise in planning. Once enemies are encountered, players will seamlessly transition into battles where they can choose from 100+ skills to unleash on their enemies. While choosing skills, players can adjust timing and see a simulated preview of their attack before committing to it. Maximize damage by creating deadly attack chains between party members and don’t let enemies catch their breath!
  • Music by celebrated producers – It’s only fitting that a game about fighting musicians features original songs by celebrated Japanese producers such as OSTER project, 40mP, 164, cosMo@Bousou-P, and more!

  • The Caligula Effect Will Be Available in the Americas and Europe on May 2 IRVINE, CALIF. - March 9, 2017 - Get ready to battle evil musicians, free some minds, and escape a virtual prison ruled by a godly virtual idol, because The Caligula Effect is coming to the Americas and Europe on May 2! Originally known as Caligula in Japan, ATLUS and FURYU Corporation have partnered to localize/release JRPG The Caligula Effect as a PlayStation®Vita digital download title. The game will keep its original Japanese audio and features a twisted story penned by Tadashi Satomi (the writer of Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment). The "perfect" world they inhabit is actually Mobius, a virtual reality construct created and ruled by μ. However, to do that they must fight brainwashed students called Digiheads, battle nefarious musicians, confront μ, and face their innermost traumas in order to truly become free. The Caligula Effect features: A human story set in a virtual world - Experience a dark story as the Go-Home Club does whatever it takes to escape the digital prison known as Mobius. The crew must defeat a group of evil music producers (known as the Ostinato Musicians) who have been working with μ, and come face-to-face with their own black secrets/desires. Written by Persona series veteran Tadashi Satomi, players will fight towards freedom as they examine the ugly psychological issues that plague the various characters in the game.

They're a Japanese dev, known for just making games of anime. Their most well known title at this point would be Legend of Legacy for 3DS.
Making games of anime? i thought that was namco's job. *LAME JOKE DRUM ROLL* :P
(seriously namco makes like many anime games. ) So why is this the first time hearing about them, were the games never localized outside japan?

As most super niche anime games are, no, Legend of Legacy appears to be the only one that got taken west.

Damn this looks really cool. If it's good this is definitely getting a play. Man the framerate though.

Well the framerate problem sucks for people who can't overclock the system with henkaku. But you are right though, if the framerate was gonna be a issue, ps4 would be better even for having the pro boost mode, maybe even New 3DS would be better. :P

But this is a new release so it will require firmware 3.63+. Henkaku is 3.60. But there might be a possibility to use the language files from this one with the previous japanese release

Oh god Furyu. Those jerks who made Unchained Blades.

I'll just try this game, I said.
It looks rather good, I said.

I'm so angry at that game because of how unfair it is. They make you start over THREE TIMES because of the chapters. I actually considered replaying the original Etrian Odyssey and Strange Journey because of how rough the game is.

I left off at the Goddesses' castle and collected 3/4 of the protagonist's squad. I progressed through that game by the sheer force of anger and pride as a gamer. The characters are obnoxious. I liked the protagonist but the writers did a cop-out and inserted a romance for him at the last minute. Because every animu games needs a romance, amirite? Dang.

What is Furyu's particular involvement? If Furyu ports this Caligula game to a Nintendo console, please remember to switch the X button to the A button this time! (They didn't do it for Unchained Blades)

Edit: Ah Furyu is just the publisher for the japanese release. Phew. Good good!
