...was purposely crippled so that it wouldn't have aspects better than the Switch release? The only Zelda designed for the Wii U, and they clearly took out weapon and rune switching on the wii u gamepad screen, which is supposed to be our "sheikah slate." They intentionally hampered gameplay to keep Switch babies from whining. I dunno about you, but that really chaps my hide...

I don't give a fuck, it makes the game better without the shit cause I don't have to change the screen I look at to change my weapons. (which happens a lot)

actually, I find switching bows, weapons, shields, and runes to be ASS

Not only that, but they delayed the release to coincide with the Switch release, and to have time to GUT all the programming they did for the gamepad screen UI

I don't really care about that.
Maybe because i'm a big Nintendo fan and i forgive them for everything they do...

Right, cuz holding down the dpad and tapping the analog stick, while freezing the action and taking you out of the game atmosphere, is obviously the better and more immersive choice than just tapping one picture on the screen!

Dual screen gaming wouldn't really have been all that great. Doesn't really make things easier when you're forced to switch focus and take your fingers off of the buttons to drag or tap. In WWHD and TPHD it didn't really help, and I only ever ended up switching items or weapons between battles. Also, while those games keep moving, BOTW pauses the game to let you change. I get more time to put thought into what I want.

Neither are "immersive."

Wrong, I've read tons of comments regarding how people loved it in the re-released games. Also, it ain't virtual reality, but one is more immersive than the other, cuz it's easier and takes less time away from the flow of the game.

Usually when I need to switch (:P) weapons it's because it broke on an enemy's face, so I just go into the menu to pause and take my time anyway.

Runes can be quick changed by pushing up and using the r-stick.

Why would I want to fuck around with the touch screen for that stuff?

So far I'm playing with the wii U pro controller, as it's the best controller of many generations. I only used the game pad because I had to use tilt controls (sigh) to solve a shrine puzzle.

Some people just want to find any reason to nitpick Nintendo.

I don't personally care for 3D Zeldas soooo...

Then your comment is moot and wasted.

As for the topic, I do believe that Beta64 had an episode for BotW.. Yes, all of these cool gimmicks would have been great, but highly unnecessary. Using a set button combo to change your runes/weapons/shields/arrows isn't all that difficult.. and unless you like staring at your weapons for a bit, it won't take you "out of the game atmosphere".. Half a second if you know what you're picking. You're just nitpicking, and it's actually rather sad.

Maybe someone should put out a tablet and smartphone line with a d pad and buttons, not just for gaming, but to select and control menus, app buttons, open apps, etc. In fact the touchscreen will be completely disabled! Sounds like a winner! Someone needs to run with this!

Well I don't know. It's working really good how it is currently. I agree for the map though. Could show a more detailled plan on the gamepad. Otherwise, gameplay is pretty good as it is.
