Homebrew PSA: we don't know anything about homebrew or piracy on Switch

The Hackers on Twitter confirmed it is a 3DS Kernel (almost) and it is a mostly just a Rewrite of 3DS. I think it is the same like other Console they have FreeBSD Licence but dont use FreeBSD.

And people keep telling is more like a home console, even it has a OS similar to the 3ds, anyway now I feel like it will be possible to run unsigned code on userland mode

Including the FreeBSD kernel license doesn't make sense if they aren't actually using the FreeBSD kernel. (If it is the 3DS OS, then they wouldn't need to mention whatever license they're using because it's proprietary.)

EDIT: ...unless they merely took FreeBSD's network stack, which would be part of the kernel.

Well just Network would be very... I think it is a Custom OS based on FreeBSD Maybe but then it wouldn't have all the Calls from 3DS? No Idea not a axpert.

What will be the naming trend for Switch homebrew?

Wii : ii (ftpii, riivolution, etc.)
WiiU : U (AstUroid, Upaint, etc.)
Switch : ? (yeah, we don't need a trend, time to find proper homebrew names )

I'm curious, do you have any sources to back your claim that developers will stop developing for the system, or that piracy hurts sales significantly?

The people who pirate tend to be people who aren not going to buy games anyway.

Also, since the Wii, Nintendo has had a GIANT install base. I've heard that one reason why developers don't develop for Nintendo is because the systems of late have been weaker than yhe others, and it is harder to port games over.

It's not too far fetched to believe that opening up piracy on the switch will deter some big name devs... but at the same time? Who knows?

Also, that last bit is true. The systems have been massively underpowered compared to Sony and MS's offerings.

Believe it or not, there are also people who would hack their console to install emulators and stuff, but will actually continue buying genuine games.

Emulator personaly i use the PC. If i "hack" my console if for use homebrew that ad funciton that should be in the system right from the start. For exemple how difficult his to say at the system "i want to use this JPG img from my SD card as a wallpaper". I want to keep me spoiler free for the Switch, no unboxing or article with system power, so if is not in the system at the start i hope they add leater a possibility to have a theme like his now on 3DS. Or simple add a function to use JPG img from your SD card.

Hello everoyon, I would like to know your point about that question : should I update my switch for the now ?

Of course I know that there is no hacking for the moment but :
I was in a bad position with 3DS, I used to update it regulary first but when it became possible to do stuff, I was in a version too much updated to do anything (for a long time, it was only possible to hack 3ds in 4.3).

So I don't know if i can update my Switch, i would like to have no problems when it will be possible to do things.

Hopefully this is the proper thread to share this in. Since I showcased/released DNSwitch the other day I figured Id try and show off the limits of what can be done with it. So I recorded the first two levels of the original mario bros(without audio since its not able too yet)



If the video isnt loading it because youtube is taking its sweet time to process
