Hey guys,

those of you that have seen my other threads may know my situation.
I bought the Japanese E-Shop version of BotW on my JP console, but have been trying to replace the subtitles for English ones.

I bought a copy of the PAL (Australian) physical disc today, and have tried to dump it to my SD and then install it to my USB (which I did successfully), but when I try and run it from the channel icon, it starts, loads up as far as the first screen where it says touch gamepad, and then I get prompted with "You need a system update - exiting to Wii menu".

What should I do?

I'm assuming if I system update, I may lose my haxchi and cfw functionality which I only just installed 2 days ago to try and change the subtitles of my game.

Does anybody know how to go about getting my legitimate disc dump to run? Again, it is a different region to my console.

Thanks guys.

You need the game update, not the system one. Download it then install it with wup installer.

The reason I bought the physical PAL version was to avoid having to download dodgy files from the internet that I didn't have legal rights to obtain.
Is there anything I can do to update my game the right way? Like maybe run the disc and allow it to download the update from the official Nintendo servers?

I blocked the DNS from settings to prevent auto-updating of my console, but I believe it also prevents updates to software titles.

As far as I know, downloading the update and installing it via WUP would mean installing it with a fake .tik (or a .tik that doesn't belong to my actual game).

I'd like to use my own .tik if possible.

Why not just simply connect to the internet and let the game update itself? It will skip that system update message (which isn't even actually a system update). If you're already on 5.5.1 you have nothing to worry about. Connect to the internet and let it update the game, then disable the internet connection again or set your DNS back to block further updates.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I'm on 5.5.1 and using a dump from my original PAL disc. I'm hesitant to update via Nintendo officially because the disc is being run from my usb drive, and it's PAL when my console is JP.

Still all good?

I don't think you'll be able to update an out of region game by normal means, but I might be wrong.

He can't with a jp console.

I thought as much :/

perhaps the other gents can shed some more light?

Download just the update with either Wii U USB Helper or uTikDownloadHelper, then install it with wup installer.

I'd like to do this without acquiring a .tik from the internet though. I'd like to use my own legitimate one from my purchased copy.

How can I do this?

I'd really appreciate a layman's versions of the instructions (if instructions for downloading the update with my "own" .tik file actually exist), as I've never done anything like this before.

Thanks again fellas.

Oh .. this is such an eff around :/

I've bought the JP E-Shop version. The PAL disc version. And here I am still unable to play lol.
I guess I could play with the Japanese subtitles. I'm a qualified Japanese teacher and have studied it for over 20 years, but when I want to relax and have fun with a game, I want it in my own language.
It's much harder to enjoy late at night when you're needing to look up words you no longer remember the meaning of.

I sure hope someone soon figures out a way to inject the English voices from my PAL to my JP version.

Sadly you can't. At least an update isn't as bad as the full game.
I'm a little bit confused, though.
If I download the update with the USB thing that somebody mentioned, how do I then install it?
I know I use WUP, but what ticket does it use?

@michael2016 download only the update using WiiU USB Helper, all updates come with a valid "universal" ticket that can install on any console (if you install a japanese update you don't even need to run CFW to make it run alongside a japanese game). This ticket doesn't carry any specific console information.

@SANIC I'm not sure about 16 or 33 :/ The physical disc that I have and am trying to run on my Japanese console, is an Australian copy, which I believe is PAL/EU.

@Tomy Sakazaki Oh, really?? So the update file is perfectly ok to use and not console specific? That's great!
