So, I recently decided to finally get the WUPInstaller y mod and intall BotW + it's update on my Wii U
And, for the most part, I could play just fine. I'd say I got between 30 mins to 1 hour of gameplay before my first freeze.
Didn't think much of it the first time, but it started to happen after just 10 minutes of playing.
Now it just seems to happen in a matter of 1-2 minutes after I open the game

I first downloaded it from uTikDownloadHelper
Decided to download from Wii U USB Helper to see if it would make any difference. Freezes just as much, and just as frequently as the uTikDownloadHelper.

It's a freeze tha comes together with a "beep" sound, which forces me to manually hold the power button on the console to turn it off.
I went as far as doing a reset on my console, since other than BotW I just had Smash 4 and Splatoon pre-installed (I bought the Smash Splat Bundle)
The only thing it changed was the fact that I lost my save sigh
Not only that, but the first time I played, like I said, I played for about a hour before the game froze for the first time. This time around, even after resetting my Wii U and reinstalling the game, the game only let me play for about 5 mins and froze right before I was even able to leave the "introduction cave", were you literally start the game in.

An extra bit of info I can give, is that I got the "memory error 160-2203" after I reset my console, even before I installed the game, which leads me to believe those freezes are related perhaps to a console problem, since I can't find anything about that error online, and it seemed to simply disappear after restarting my Wii U

Sorry for the long text, I tried to compile as much info as I got these past 2 days while trying to play, to hopefully get help on making the freezing stop, since I really want to play this game

I also thought about trying Loadiine
...
Yeah, no x3
Any help would be very, very appreciated, thanks in advance !

The first thing I would say is the game runs horribly using loadiine with huge load times it takes like 10 mins to just to get the game to start so avoid loadiine. Secondly it's def a hardware issue of some sort. Did you copy the game to a usb hdd or to the internal storage?? If it's on your hdd does the hdd have its own power supply?? If it does not have its own power supply are you using a USB y cable to power the wiiu because if not that is your answer as non self powered hdd drives need a y cable to work on the wiiu

I tried installing the game both to a 64 gb pen drive I bought recently, and to the Wii U's internal storage, both attempts gave me the freeze while playing

I would like to test it too and report back. But i need to install it first.
Did you use a guide to do this? Because like you said, you need the game and the update and a .tik file ???
Let me know please

install to an hdd for best, I played for around 50 hours total so far, no sleep xD
But I only experienced freezes two times, and that was back to back within ten minutes, other than that explored whole map etc. no issues.

Apparently your NAND seems to be kinda corrupted?
You might want to give it to Nintendo since defective NAND's were a thing.
I personally play for 2-7h each day and not even a single freeze/Wii U turning itself off.

I had the same issue running games through USB HDD, not just only Zelda. It sucks because the screen turns black and you have to manually turn off the console to bring it back online. The solution: turn HDD sleep mode off (through data management settings hidden option) and use a Y-cable; however, it should no be your case though, as you mentioned prior console failures.

I also had issues with uTikDownloadHelper before, normally download everything with it, except you have to manually verify the files with JNUSTool to make sure they're not corrupt in any sense.

It happened to me a few times...

Thanks for the replies x3
I still have yet to find a way to fix it, it's probably due to a faulty console, unfortunately
I have been playing Smash 4 on this Wii U since I bought it in May 2016, if I recall correctly, and I never had a problem like this
Very rarely would sm4sh freeze and make a buzzing/beeping noise like BotW is doing right now.
In fact, still today I can play Smash 4 just fine, the occurrences of the freezing on Smash are close to none, meanwhile BotW freezes after minutes of gameplay sigh
Also, living in Brazil is kinda hard to send my console so that Nintendo can fix it because, afaik, Nintendo unfortunately doesn't support my country anymore. Unless there is in fact a way without having to send my console all the way to the US, which would probably be very expensive, and take a looong time
Hopefully I can finda way to fix this problem, or even a place I can send my Wii U here in Brazil for repairs. For now, I'll just have to keep looking, rip

I would like to test it too and report back. But i need to install it first.

I'd recommend downloading Wii U USB Helper, which can be found on this forum
It'll only require you to input the wii u title keys website upon installing, and then you can search for the game you want to download and it'll download a ready to use with WupInstaller game

When I tried it on the wii u, it ran like shit on my 1tb WD Green HD, threw it on a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive, and runs as perfectly as it can on the wii u, load times just as fast, possibly faster than the switch.

Can't tell you much more, because I got a switch and no longer play it on wiiu.

So i used this guide: https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-complete-guide-to-brazilian-exploit-method-on-5-5-1.446415/
Almost exactly to install BOTW and used 'Wii U USB Helper' to download the game and the update.
I installed the game first and the update v33 second.
I installed both to my NAND and had 17GB free space

Changes:
Put only the game on the install folder on your SD card and install with "wupinstaller y mod"
After that, delete the game and put the Update on your SD card and install with "wupinstaller y mod"
The guide is unsure if the program works with updates and recommends another, but use that one.

I used loadiine.ovh and the 'homebrew launcher illuminati' (or so)
After installing the game. Turn your Wii U off and on again and repeat the steps for the update.
Don't start the game before installing the update.
--

I have played for 20 hours now and it didn't freeze or crash.
Also loading times are insanely fast, I love it.
No more loadiine for me.

So please delete BOTW and try again using that guide and my changes.

I had freezing issues at a specific point when the first tower gets activated. I was on 5.3.2 spoofed to 5.5.1, I updated to full 5.5.1 and it fixed the game. Seems like either something was corrupted by spoofing or BofW has 5.5.1 specific function calls.

This freezing issue has been happening to me. I just got my refurbished Wii U directly from Nintendo in the mail a week ago. I've been going absolutely crazy and spent HOURS trying to resolve this stupid issue. I've remade my redNAND 3 times, tried 3 different HDDs (2 with external power and one with Y cable) and it still freezes at the very beginning. I'm using basically the same model 6 year old Western Digital HD as my cousin too and he has played hours without issue. I've tried 3 different plug outlets, 2 different power strips, and still have the same problem. I'm almost to my breaking point. What are my options right now? Is there ANYTHING ELSE I can do on my end to make it work? I want to run games from the USB. It does the same thing with Xenoblade Chronicles X. Both occur within 3-4 minutes of starting the game. Sometimes the game will freeze on the title screen before even launching.

I've also noticed other weird things with my Wii. Sometimes, whether I load SysNAND OR RedNAND, the icons plain fail to load on the home menu, although they are selectable. At one point, the Wii started freezing at the brown Mocha CFW logo and forced me to format and remake my RedNAND to access it. I can't find my issue anywhere else. Is there anything I can do to alleviate this issue?
