Hacking Any advantages to vWii over regular Wii?

I haven't kept up with the Wii scene since the Wii U came out, and I've been perfectly happy with everything I can do on the regular Wii. I see that you can run vWii in a Wii U to basically do everything the old Wii could do with running Wii backups, Gamecube backups, and emulators. Besides being able to run Wii U backups, is there any advantage to getting a Wii U just for the vWii aspects, or are they identical?

(in some unclear future) launching and playing any iso supporting the classic controller using the gamepad
is also a WiiU

On the other hand, a real Wii has:
better brick protection (priiloader vs backups from wiiu mode over ftp, bootmii/boot2 too if you have a model made before late 2007)
slightly more power to usb ports
built-in gamecube ports, including memory card (for models before 2012)
the ability to edit the wii menu (the vwii one is decrypted and verified like if it was a wiiu app)
can be found everywhere for cheap (both complete console and spare parts)
a green power led instead of the disgusting blue that's everywhere nowadays

I agree with all that except your comment about the blue power light and than God the wiiu does not have the rather annoying disc tray light any time the wii was loading something.

Even with HDMI out, I find the display on vWii to be rather fuzzy. I wonder why? The real Wii on component cable didn't seem as fuzzy, to me. Any way to improve that?

Very strange for me wii games look noticeably better on vwii than on Wii expecially xenoblade chronicles. On Wii it looked all washed out and the in game text was hard to read on vwii the colors are vibrant and the text is easy to read and all round the graphics look sharper.

Wow! I would like to see the same results on my side! I'm gonna have to investigate. Is it possible the HDMI cable is to blame? It's the one that came with the console. Strange! But I have other HDMI cables, anyway.

As far as signal quality, the 100% digital treatment which may be done on a WiiU is definitely superior... but if we're comparing the final image, there are lots of other variables (wiiu's upscaler VS your TV's, if different processing is applied to component vs hdmi...)

Nope, that's not how digital signals work - either it comes out perfectly, or it's so bad it starts dropping blocks of pixels or entire frames

I have a WiiU connected to a 42inch HDTV that looks amazing playing blu-rays and other consoles. I have a Wii connected through Component through 480i on an old CRT. The Wii on my CRT looks much better, and has a crisp image, and there's no input lag either. My WiiU has input lag, and it doesn't actually render the Wii @ 1080p, instead it will take the 480p and upscales it to 1080p and puts filters on to make it not look as jagged... which just makes it look blurry. The only way around this would be to connect your WiiU through Wii component cables to a CRT, and that would probably look a lot nicer

This is because HD TVs really show all the flaws with sd content. The highest a Wii can go is 480p using a component cable. This exact setup on an HD screen won't look as "crisp" as a CRT because the SD content looks much better on CRT.

so... I went through every tv setting on the box under the component input setting. It now actually looks pretty close to the same as hdmi.

I guess I believe those people now that the wii can look as good as vwii, but it was sure more work to make them look the same.

I would actually think that the Wii would look better than the vWii since it isn't being upscaled. Also the upscaling technique that Nintendo used just looks like absolute garbage

Real Wii is still so cheap, unless you don't have enough room for both it's a no brainer.

I've seen a Wii comparison with the HDMI dongle vs the Vwii en the Wii with the HDMI dongle was def superior to Vwii

Yes, I remember reading about that once, the filters applied in vWii mode. We need a way to disable these through homebrew. (wishful thinking) With the same HDMI cable, Wii U games are real sharp, so the cable is good, I'm sure. It makes me wonder why Marko76's results are so different? I guess there is still a big difference between europe and america for consoles and TVs.

The big reason why people don't take the time to mod vwii and remove filters is because in the end, there's not really much of a point. Anyone who cares that much would just buy a used Wii for $50 and move on.
I imagine it's not an easy fix and would take a substantial amount of time to do this.

Yup, and since I still have my old Wii, I don't bother about vWii. It would have been nice to have it all in one package, though.

Also the Wii U upscales the native Wii 480p to 1080p very nicely. On my Sony 75 HDTV, I test out various Wii games on vWii both at 480p and 1080p. The 1080p do look much better in overall quality. It could also mean my Sony 480p upscaling sucks as well.
