Hi, btw I'm extremely new to 3DS homebrewing, I just installed Luma3DS on my 2DS for the first time yesterday using 3ds.guide. I was wondering, I have a DSTWO+ coming in the mail, and I noticed downgrading to a fake version of 9.2.0 was part of the process for installing Luma. But then right after that the guide told me to update to the latest firmware. My question is, since that whole 9.2.0 downgrade happened, is the Gateway 3DS emulation from DSTWO+ still possible on my system?

Thanks, and cheers.

I also really suggest not using the Supercard DSTwo. If you have Luma installed, than ROM injections beat DSTwo emulation. Not to mention an R4i Gold is a lot better on your battery life. Seriously, even in standby on the home screen, the DSTwo drains your battery.

Stay away from the 3ds cart, bad gateway clone, not worth it.

The DS cart is awesome, I've been using one of these trash R4 clones and got so frustrated after freezes glitches and spontaneous loss of save files altogether that I decided to go for DS Two and it's a dream. Perfect compatibility with games, no issues and as a bonus it emulates GBA and SNES like a breeze thanks to its built in processor.

Can someone tell me the trick to using my DSTwo (not the + version) on my old 3ds? It WAS previously working: I was running FW 4.4 on a vanilla setup with ONLY the mset hack in order to use the DStwo card.

Today I updated the 3ds to CFW a9lh+luma, following Plaicts 3dsguide webpage. Updated to 11.3 FW, and everything seems fine. FBI and .cia games install and work ok, but my DStwo card does not show up as an inserted cartridge when I pop it in anymore.

Do I need to hold something while booting in order to have the card recognized, or some other setup/file placed on the internal SD card??

@OP DSTwo+ Gateway emulation will brick your 3DS, use either freegame or freeshop. Or convert the 3DS roms to CIA.

@thread hijacker (@Bonovox40) It's glitchy, close and open the DS on the home menu and it should pop up. Or eject the cartridge and plug it back in.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to take it over, I thought we were both having the same issues, but the problems are slightly different since he's using a GW card and i'm not. (but prior to the mset hack I put on this a few years ago, I was) There is no more GW emunand side after the CFW/luma install however, and chose to not preserve it during the procedure.

And i've closed/opened and ejected the card tons of times since flashing luma to it today. Never had the card show up once, so I think there's something missing, or something that is preventing it from being seen by the system.

The card could be broken. Try it in a DS lite and see if works there? Or clean the contacts and try slipping a bit of paper down the side to help push it against the contacts inside the console.

I mean sure, but I used the DStwo in it a day ago. Until now, it's been just a DS game player using the DStwo card for the last 2 years. But today I installed a9lh+luma from scratch following the guide. And I skipped the step about preserving GW/emunand on it, but if I boot into the Hourglass9 menu, go to System info, it shows me all the NAND and etc stuff....but at the bottom shows "Installed EmuNAND: GW EmuNAND"

I purposely skipped the step that is supposed to save/recover the GW emunand, so i'm not sure how it still exists. I don't need/want it anymore. I'm not even sure how to boot up into it if I wanted to? (I mean if there is a way without using the GW card itself, since I only use that on my n3dsxl, not this old3ds model)

Does the existence of the GW emunand on this 3ds somehow prevent/corrupt the dstwo from starting? or is it some kinda false detection and the GW emunand is really gone? When I bootup without touching anything, i'm technically in Luma right? I'm able to run .cia files on 11.3 fw and freeshop is working so....?

Thanks Quantumcat.

You can get rid of the emuNAND partition from the SD card by following the Move emuNAND steps, except DON'T restore the emuNAND backup to the sysNAND. All the other steps will remove it from your SD card.
You could also skip making a backup of the emuNAND if you want to, but if it were me I'd still get a backup to keep just in case later there was data you realised you wanted.

I'm checking the set of steps here: https://3ds.guide/move-emunand but i'm confused because of the variation you're saying I can do. What step is the part where I am removing the GW emunand, but keeping the currently OK luma sysnand? What exact steps should I do and which ones to skip/ignore?
It seems like I should start with step #10: Backup every file on your SD card to a folder on your computer; and then proceed through to the end of that section....or do I need to use hourglass to make a new sysnand NANDmin.bin backup, and then do emunand restore and use THAT just made sysnand backup as the new emunand? Will that wipe out the GW emunand with just a duplicate sysnand acting as an emunand? (or will that cause the 3ds to implode and/or time to stop?)

Don't do the steps coloured red, blue is optional if you want to keep a backup of your emuNAND:

  1. Copy GodMode9.bin from the GodMode9 .zip to the /luma/payloads/ folder on your SD card and rename GodMode9.bin in /luma/payloads/ to up_GodMode9.bin
  2. Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS
  3. Open Hourglass9 from arm9loaderhax by holding (Start) on boot
  4. Go to “EmuNAND Backup/Restore”, then select the “EmuNAND Backup” option to backup your EmuNAND to NANDmin_emu.bin
  5. Press (B) to get back to the main menu
  6. Go to “SysNAND Backup/Restore”, then select the “SysNAND Restore (keep a9lh)” option to restore your SysNAND from NANDmin_emu.bin
  7. Press (Select) to eject your SD card
  8. Put your SD card in your computer, then copy NANDmin_emu.bin and NANDmin_emu.bin.sha from the /files9/ folder on your SD card to a safe location
    • Make backups in multiple locations
    • This backup will save you from a brick if anything goes wrong in the future
  9. Delete NANDmin_emu.bin from the /files9/ folder on your SD card after copying it
  10. Backup every file on your SD card to a folder on your computer; all files will be deleted in the following steps
  11. Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS
  12. Press (Start) to reboot while holding (Up) to open GodMode9
  13. Press the (Home) button to bring up the action menu
  14. Select “SD format menu”
  15. Press (A) to confirm
  16. Select “No EmuNAND”
  17. Select “Auto”
  18. Enter the prompted button combination to confirm
  19. Hold (R) and press (B) at the same time to eject your SD card
  20. Put your SD card in your computer, then copy all your files back into it
    • Ensure you replace the arm9loaderhax.bin file on the SD card with the one from your backup
  21. Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS
  22. Press (A) to remount your SD card
  23. Press (Start) to reboot!
  24. If you get a black screen, follow this troubleshooting guide

Thanks Quantumcat! It worked and the GW emunand is stripped out. So that's good. The dstwo still isn't working so idk what the deal is with that. I thought all DS flashcarts still worked on any FW is you have a9lh/luma running...

Yeah they should. It's quite weird. You can try the DS section of the troubleshooting page, but that's more for if they boot into a black screen.

Just an update, I put the gw card in my n3ds running 9.2 sysnand FW, and it shows up instantly. Its definitely the o3ds with the new a9lh/luma setup. Either that setup is blocking the supercard, or something w 11.3 fw is.
Just odd because I found posts stating its working fine for them on 11.x fw.

I am on 11.3 with Luma and O3ds XL and my Supercard works perfect

Thanks for commenting in about using the same system/setup. This seems crazy as to why the card stopped working on the old3ds w Luma, but my n3ds sysnand 9.2 (GW 10.x emunand) it still works...
When you start up, does it show 11.3 or something else? I have no emunand setup on the O3ds/Luma system. Just trying to isolate what is stopping the card from being seen.

Forgot to ask, what is the FW/update versions you have installed on the DStwo card? Maybe mine is off, but I haven't seen any updates on the site since like 2015 or something for it.

dont update to 11.3 if you using gw mode (it breaks a9lh, i dont know if its true but i heard of it)

Right, that seems to be the consensus here, and i'm not going to update my n3ds that uses GW on it.
My issue is on my old3ds, updating to 11.3 (not using GW on it) has broken DS flashcart use, but .cia's and other functions are just fine. But my case seems isolated compared to other users like shanefromoz, who has the exact same cart and works fine.
