After about a year and a half away, I'm thinking about buying a 2DS. I can get one refurbished at Walmart for $75 (with the giftcards I've saved up though, that goes down to about $45). I also want to install CFW on it this time around. I understand this might be a crazy question, but what are the odds of if being on 11.3? Would I be better off buying brand new instead?

Well that depends on when it was refurbished. There is a good chance that it is below 11.3.
All current stock should be less then 11.3 also, pushing old stock takes time.
As for new vs used. That's up to you, but I'd take new over used just because 2ds/3ds can be online banned. Do you know why it was refurbished? By Who? also whats the return policy?

All Walmart's site says is that it's a refurbished 2DS sold directly by Walmart. Main reason I was looking at it was because the brand new models are out of stock.

I know I can get a refurb from Nintendo themselves for 60, but I imagine that would definitely have 11.3 on it.

They more the likely would have 11.3 on it but yet again, if Nintendo did the refurbishing months ago I doubt they would update all the systems after the fact.
Are you going to buy the 2ds on the site or in store?

Unless they get some in stock within the next week or so, I'll probably buy on site. It is rather insane how out of stock they are as of late.

Ask Walmart if you can return it if it comes and it's banned? I am sure you could sell it privately if it's 11.3? No harm in getting refurbished stuff as long as you read what standard it has been refurbished to.

There you go, Nintendo doesn't update refurbished consoles before they ship. Good to know.

That is pretty good to know, considering that they're the cheapest I've found so far.

Is it from Nintendo or a different place?

The Walmart listing? It doesn't say. Just says it's refurbished and it's 5 bucks cheaper than brand new. I dunno if Walmart themselves refurbished it or not

It's Walmart so I believe I'd have two weeks to return it if it were banned or if it were on 11.3

Here's the listing. It's listed as "Sold and shipped" by Walmart, so I'm guessing it's a return or something.

A few days ago I bought a 2DS from ninty refurbished. I'm supposed to get it by Friday. I'll let you know if it's 11.3 or lower.

I bought a refurbished n3DS XL straight from Ninty.

It was on 9.8. I think you'll be fine.

I'm sad to read so many fear-mongering posts here... when there is way higher chance to get <= 11.2 (like 95%+). I also had same situation few months before SoundHax when everyone was fearing 11.0 because it could only be hard-moded. Ordered Nintendo Refurbished for $175 got N3DS XL with 9.8.

So I would advise everyone to stop worrying. Order what you want, if it's 11.3 return and re-order. Find something more important to worry about.
