A new Japanese trailer provides a first look.

Nintendo of Japan has released a new Nintendo Switch trailer. The 30-second spot shows off the console's unique hybrid nature and contains a segment featuring EA's FIFA 18.

In the video (via Eurogamer), two people are playing the new FIFA in the Switch's portable mode, on a coffee table. It's not a lot to go on, but this is apparently the first time we've seen any footage of FIFA 18 on Switch.

Earlier this month, EA's Peter Moore confirmed that EA is making a "custom" version of FIFA for Switch that is essentially FIFA 18. There were rumors that the Switch version of FIFA 18 would be based on the edition that comes out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Asked if the Switch version would be closer to the PS4/Xbox One or to the PS3/Xbox 360 versions, Moore replied, "What you have will be a custom-built version for the Nintendo Switch from the FIFA development team in Vancouver."

EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently said that "FIFA 18 will build on the foundation we created with story mode this year, bringing players back to The Journey with Season 2, featuring new characters and new storylines."

The Journey was a story-driven adventure introduced in FIFA 17 that sees you follow a young footballer called Alex Hunter. It featured dedicated characters, cutscenes, and appearances from real-life players and managers. It remains to be seen if The Journey will be featured in the Switch version of FIFA 18; the mode was not in the PS3/Xbox 360 version of FIFA 17.

A release date for FIFA 18 has not been announced. New entries in the series usually come out in September.

not into sports games, But the graphic look cool.
I wonder tho if this will be one of those crap change ups. Heard alot about FIFA just porting over the line up and not remaking the new games.
Either way the way you can play with the switch adds much more to the game.

Looks like what I'd expect. Which is great really, I don't think the graphics on the Switch look much inferior to the Xbone or PS4. I mean I'm sure they are inferior, but the difference is so negligible, that I just don't care. Hopefully third party support stays strong on the Switch, if it sells well I think the support could indeed stay strong.

FIFA 10 to me on the PS3 looks great to me so this seems to be pretty good too.

I think somebody commented about it before.
But to me the screen looks too small to dettach the controllers, set it over the table, and play a game like FIFA from afar.
The characters and the ball are just too small for my eyesight.

I see myself only getting any real use out of the tabletop mode in situations when me and a friend are close to the screen with time to kill. A specific example I'm thinking of is of a trip me and some friends are taking later this year and how perfect it will be to play a game like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the plane ride.

But I mean otherwise the Switch's screen isn't much bigger than a Wii U gamepad. you can get an idea of what playing like that on the Switch will be like if you go to the vWii with the gamepad on and play a game like Mario Kart Wii or Brawl while both only looking at the Gamepad.

But i think its how the video was made. I mean the 3ds xl screen is what 4inch and its pretty easy to see thing from a far.

But as you said its to eachs eyesight.

Being a video doesn't really matter too much, that's what you'll get from playing on a small screen as such. I had trouble playing Bomberman R at the premiere since it was hard to tell where my character was at.

Ive play on small screens before without problems.
Had the psone and gamecube screen.
Both where between 5-6inchs.
And i play those games just fine at about 2-3 feet away.

Most games are fine if they're optimised to small screens. I remember playing Power Stone on the PSP and while it looked great, the camera/widescreen aspect ratio was just too distracting from enjoying the game.

The Journey mode un FIFA 17 is great. I hope the Switch version will be not too different from the PS4 version, that way I just buy the NS version

i hope they will learn to make the text in these games readable. It seems when the hd era was entered they forgot to change the font size. the game got higher res but the font stayed like 8pt size. good luck reading text on a small screen if its like monster hunter 3U or xenoblade x. the text needs to be scaled properly so its size is relative. Mario kart 8 has good text that seems the same size at mario kart wii. it was scaled properly
