What if CronusMAX releases a Switch-compatible adapter and some use K/M? Is it against the rules to use their own preferred gaming controls?

I'd suppose that eSporters would be more mature and professional than some gamers to admit that it's perfectly fine.

I've found the matchmaking in Splatoon to be pretty decent. Never seems like I'm playing with too many people far above or below my level, and lobbies quickly fill up, you never have to wait long to get a match going.

Most of the time the lobbies are fine and work well, some days just suck, really bad. I just do something else. Server is leaking bits or something.

I think the problem now is there just aren't that many noobs so level 10 and below players are frequently in matches with those 30 and over. That is a huge skill level difference.

Is esports a term used by a body or individual company that outputs a certification? Is this group/company worth listening to and does it have any serious competition?
If so are us plebs allowed to read the certs?

I have read many of the rules and tournament design stuff for fighting game tournaments, away with the faeries before they smoked all the crack and wrote the rules is how I would usually categorise them and the likes of smash brothers and pokemon is even worse. There is some good stuff in there but there is also a lot of nonsense in all the ones I ever read -- see the list of banned characters and how it changes as people discover counters to them and they then become legal. If their only concern is making a good spectacle then fair enough but it still sits badly.

Anyway I don't see why it would inherently have to have keyboard and mouse to be certified, unless of course it says as such in the still hypothetical certs from the opening of my post. In every case I have ever seen though a straight compare, no aim assist, the controller peeps failed every time and it took assists being cranked to ridiculous levels to make it viable. To that end such a third party device would probably be ruled tournament illegal.
On preferred controller method then that is a fairly interesting discussion throughout sports. It usually comes down to being within certain constraints, and in this case nothing active as part of it (you would be allowed you gel controller wrap most likely but something with autofire would pose troubles, something with a variable stick pitch is up for debate). As this can be a pain in the arse to test for (controller testing becoming like drug testing* then many fighting game tournaments say we provide the controllers for this, you are allowed any button remappings/sensitivity settings within the game.

*big boy scientists doing big boy things, and for game controllers I reckon I can have something done for $1000 that looks the part and would take serious testing to figure out.

Of course it won't. I know it's ridiculous, but there's a whole huge segment of "pro gamers" that play with with gamepads. On all of the consoles.

LOL I only play ranked haha. So I'm unsure what your problems are with matchmaking but it all works for me without a hitch. Pretty equal matchups overall and matchmaking is done quickly.

I mean, perhaps they never said the words, but that Switch reveal trailer sure as hell was marketing Splatoon like its an official esport.

Side rant: God I still hate that term to this day, "esport." I suppose technically any competitive game can be called a sport, but to me it undermines what I consider real sports. It'd be akin to if you started calling card games like Magic the Gathering a "card sport". In other words, I wouldn't call the champion of an esports tournament an athlete (unless they happen to also be basketball star or something like that).

Uhhhhh you mean when they showed teams of people strategizing Splatoon (complete with matching shirts), and then sitting in a giant arena with tons of people cheering them on as they play Splatoon seems only like a Splatoon trailer and not at all like they were also trying to make the game seem like an esport?

Like I said, Nintendo hasn't used the words specifically, but there is no other way to take that part of the ad. Those people are literally preparing for a Splatoon tournament and then go compete in said tournament... if that's not an esport, I don't know what is.

? Dude are you even reading what I'm talking about? Yeah its a trailer. But they're advertising Splatoon as an esport in it. How can you even say otherwise? Also I agree, mouse and keyboard support or not has no impact on how much of an esport a game is or not.
