Miyamoto reveals Link's last name!

Capture.JPG

In a recent Game Informer interview, Nintendo legends Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma were asked 51 questions (and gave 51 answers) about The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.

One of them was the burning question of many Zelda fans; does Link have a last name? And the answer is... (drum roll please)... Link! Yes, our green tunic-clad, pointy-eared protagonist is called Link Link. Miyamoto says it's because Link is not human (*gasp!* :O). And oh, it's same with Mario (it's-a me, Mario Mario!).

Check out the full 4 minute interview below, it's pretty fun, with several trivia revealed by two of the gaming industry's legends:

Goddammit Miyamoto... At least try to be creative sometime this decade.

Link Link? Link is no human? I believe they were just trolling.
I doubt it. We already have Mario Mario, and I don't see why anyone would be surprised by Link not being human. I mean, he has pointy, elf-like ears - something humans don't have. The Hylians are considered a race, and at least in some continuities, it's implied Link is one of them or at least somehow related.

Oh Miyamoto. That's why we all love you. Such creative imagination. The scenery, the story... But most of all... The names. Link Link, Mario Mario... Hey, we can't leave out Like Like. ;)

I think they were just goofing around. They didn't seem to take it too seriously, even if the fandom was anticipating it. I think they don't care nearly as much as some fans might.

It's a great interview btw, you should go watch it if you haven't already.

Sure would be nice if they made a 2D Pokemon game again...
The Pokemon series has always been pushing the limits of their handheld hardware. They've slowly been transitioning to 3D, going from 2D to 2.5D (sprites w/ 3D models), and then going full-blown 3D with the 3DS titles. Usually Pokemon games are some of the most best-looking games on their handheld systems, so I wouldn't expect them to go back to sprites anytime soon. The games are also way more dynamic with 3D models, and they can do more such as incorporate interesting camera angles. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, kids nowadays are accustomed to 3D graphics.

I think it'd be wicked cool if they did something like what Square Enix is doing with DragonQuest 11 on the 3DS where you can play the game in regular 3D but also play it in 2D if you like. Like this:

You have your 3D view on top and a matching 2D view on the bottom.

You do realize I'm not trolling. Miyamoto said in an interview that Mario has no last name as his name is just Mario, like Drake or Jem. He was telling the truth when it was exactly like Mario as Link's name is just Link.
it was said in 93 mario movie that mario's and luigi's last name is mario, they officialised that

You do realize everything that isn't the games, such as that horrible movie and the 90's cartoons are strictly noncanon.
Mario Brothers include luigi, i wonder why if its because their last name isnt mario

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
