As the title says: I attempted to hack my 3ds with various youtube videos on downgrading from the lastest patch to the oldest one (3.0 I believe) and after installing all the modding tools required and CTR Transfer file my 3ds got formatted. as it started up the regular factory set up menu it asked for wifi which i complied to and gave it the password but afterwards it reminded me of an update that was pending (the original 11.something) idk why but I decided to let it update and now my 3ds screen is stuck both black with no sound coming out of them. the 3d light isnt lit up and the wifi light does not flicker as it usually does. the power light is always on when I turn it on. and the charging light is also lit up but the whole 2screens are un lit. please help me fix this as quickly as possible. this was supposed to be for a cousin of mine. she leaves soon.

Seems like you're totally screwed. Do you at least have a nand backup?

Try to boot it without the sd card inserted.

Is this a new3ds?

Why did you use various Youtube videos when you could have just used one guide? Youtube videos are always out of date and worst of all, using different ones can get different files and different time periods during the A9LH install. That's how you end up with bricks and that's why you shouldn't use youtube videos. Sounds like you fucked up.

I don't know about you guys, but I simply enjoy stories like these. People can not follow a tutorial and lack understanding of the process, but nonetheless they puzzle together stuff from various sources and then do things just like "I don't know what this does but oh well what's the worst that can happen" - a brick. A brick can happen. And then suddenly if it was the most natural thing to do, people come here and complain. So gbatemp probably isn't that hard to find. Had they come here in the first place, they wouldn't be in this mess.

I had to check if this was EOF when I first clicked on it, because it almost seemed like a parody post.

"I attempted to hack my 3ds with various youtube videos"

I guess that's the stereotypical brick for a reason.

So much this. I guess it's "wrong" to be happy that the OP bricked their system but honestly if you're doing something and you don't understand what you're doing then you should follow a freaking guide. If you're gonna stray from the guide then you deserve to get bricked. And yes, follow A guide. A single guide. Video guides are already terrible yes but newbies don't know this .. But why would you follow several guides at the same time? Like wat.

I understand Im a noob to this sort of thing. Unfortunately no I do not have a nandbackup. Sorry for being rude but this doesnt help me at all. As far as I remember I had only 3 videos helping me and they were all from the same guy, one video was for a downgrade, one was for a file thats accesible from the music player (i believe soundhax?) And the last one was the ctr transfer usa file. After that my 3ds profiles were deleted and i made a new one for my cousin when I hopped on the wifi it asked me for a system update I hadnt paid attention to the video when it said not to update it. So yes I do deserve this but Im trying to avoid having to buy a new 2ds for her since they cost 80 dollars. And i only have 170 bucks left over from payday. I use my money sparingly which is why i was trying to install freeShop so that I didnt have to buy her any new cartdriges and she couldve gotten them herself.

You bricked, and you don't have a nand backup - which means it's unrecoverable.

You can buy a new motherboard for ~$50 or cut your losses and sell the bricked system on ebay for about ~$50.

Mind linking the videos so someone can piece this together. You shouldn't be following them and should only be used as a visual demonstration on specific menu's such as decrypt9 and safea9lh to see what it looks like.I think mabe If the guide included pictures or something this video brick issue would be solved.

Why would anyone need videos or images? 3ds.guide explains every little chicken shit. If you are able to follow exact instructions, everyone can a9lh his 3ds.

Not everyone can without seeing it visually.Thats why people turn to video's and get bricked, look outside the box here.If pictures where added to certant menu options such as the glitched screen when launching the dukes website and the correct options in the decrypt9 menu such as backing up the nand, then the person would use the guide over a YouTube video.

Probably wouldn't actually, since people tend to find about modding through accidentally stumbling onto a CFW 3ds video. Glitched screen wouldn't really work as an image because it's different for some people. I've only ever seen it once and it was as it says .. glitched, random stripes and colors .. But another use has reported that it was just a black screen, for one it was just a white screen and the like.

I do think pictures could help but the problem is that someone would have to make a 1:1 copy of 3DS.Guide and add images to it, then maintain and update it so it doesn't get outdated. I doubt anyone's dedicated enough .. It would be easy if the images were intergrated onto the 3DS.Guide itself though and frankly I don't know why they aren't. If you just added a small link after each step showing what the menu would look like then interested people could link it, others would not.

Though honestly the guide is easy enough as it is. You don't need to see it to know where to go.

Fair enough, the guide is simple and dedication would be required in order to keep the visual stuff along with the detailed instructions updated.I just wonder how we could get people off fully following videos if they brick everyone.

If yours is the n3ds, have you tried to turn it on without the microSD card inside?
I'm not sure it work for you because you tried to update the firmware.

For me, it works when I did the 2.1 ctrtransfer exactly as the 3ds.guide but forgot to turn the wifi on.
So I turn off my n3ds with the power button instead of removing the battery first. When I turn it on again, both screen is black but the power light and charger light is on. I thought that i bricked it because using the power button = sleep mode.
But luckily after taking off the microSD card, the n3ds screen turn on again with wifi also on, so I put the SD card again and continue the process.
