So a couple of years ago I hacked my wii using a YouTube video. Got all of the essentials, homebrew, usbloadergx, priiloader, etc. I haven't really touched it in a couple of years.

I have heard recently that I should go back and redo some of the process because my files and programs may be out of date now. My question is should I just format the SD card that has everything on it and start from scratch? Would doing that cause me to have 2 of everything on my wii? Like 2 of usbloadergx or priiloader?

Or is there another way I should go about it? Or should I not worry about it at all and just continue to use what I have?

If everything is running fine, then don't worry about it.

Also, the wii scene has been dead for a few years now. Most likely everything you have is up to date.

If something in particular is buggy, you can check to see if it has a new version available. Priiloader updates itself btw.

OK that works. I will just stick with what I have. The only reason I was thinking about redoing everything was to try to get more apps like wad manager to have more options, but I'm skeptical of some of the tutorials because I don't want to brick my wii

It's really easy to replace apps that run through the homebrew channel. They are stored in the /apps folder on your sd card.

So if you want to try new wad managers just throw them into that folder. But, like I said, there hasn't been development on this stuff in years.

I just don't see a wad manager at all when I load up homebrew. I guess that must mean that the package I used a couple of years ago to hack my wii didn't have wad manager in it?

Thank you I will try that one!

So totally noob question here. I see some people's modded wii's that have games on their home screen. Is this the result of a wad manager or something else?

They are using channel forwarders to pull that off.

If you don't know what you're doing you can brick your wii trying to set those up. I never bothered to look into it because I was fine booting up wiiflow/usbloader gx every time.

OK yeah probably not the best idea then. What is the benefit of a wad file over any other file type anyway?

.wads are installable to the system menu. Virtual console titles are installed via .wads. Full wii/gc games can't be installed in this manner.

Let's say you want to install super mario 64, you would get a .wad.

OK so I downloaded a game that was in wad format and my wii said it was an invalid format. I assume this is because I haven't gone through the steps to get a wad manager yet? Is it that simple just to download a wad manager or are there extra steps.

But then again unless I want that extra 20 seconds back out of my life I could just go to the app to play the game I guess

The game that you downloaded, how are you trying to play it? Where did you place it on the sd card?

If you have Priiloader (or BootMii as boot2) it's completely safe to install those WAD channels, don't worry about it.
You'll probably want a USB Loader forwarder at least. USB Loader GX has its own, and ModMii has an universal one that works for all loaders. Assuming you have a Wii, this is the latest USB Loader GX forwarder: https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/Forwarders/USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder_5_1_AHBPROT.wad/download

It was star fox 64. I placed it into the rom folder of the wii64 application
Wii64/Not64 plays original ROMs, not WADs (that means, any ROM that works on your PC should in *theory* work on Wii64/Not64 but in reality compatibility is rather low, official WADs on the other hand are guaranteed to work perfectly but they need to be installed to the system menu)

a wad is not an n64 rom. A wad won't work using wii64 because wii64 is an emulator (which plays roms).

You either need to get a .n64 rom to use with wii64, or use a wad manager to install the game/wad to your home menu.

wii64 was created to play the games that the built in emulator can't run.

You know how you can buy starfox and other n64 games on the wii? That's what wads are. wii64 plays roms, so games that weren't officially released on the wii.

OK that makes total sense because I have a couple of other .N64 files that played perfectly. Well thanks for all the timely replies. I may or may not try to go the wad manager route or I might just go to homebrew everytime to play. If I have any more questions (probably will lol) I will be sure to come back here.

And to be able to install wads to the system menu I can use that usbloader gx forwarder you linked me?

And also you said if I have priiloader I am safe...does just having the app make me safe or do I need to configure something through priiloader to make me safe?

That's just one WAD you might find useful. You can install it with the WAD managers linked previously in this thread.

As long as you have Priiloader installed, you can recover from corrupted WAD channels. No need to configure anything, holding reset on boot will let you load HBC or a specific homebrew, so you can undo any damage done by a corrupted channel.

OK thank you. I might give it a try to make things a little more convenient

OK so I figured out that I have multi mod manager which if I'm not mistaken has a wad manager built in. So I downloaded that usbloadergx-uneo_forwarder file and it is just showing up as a wad file. Where do I put that file onto my sd card?
