Okay so im currently saving up for a switch! Ive saved £75/£280 so far and earlier today ANN released this Article:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...sses-handheld-successor-to-3ds-system/.111805

Now i understand why Nintendo wants a slimmer switch. thats perfectly normal and makes sense from a bussiness standpoint

But WHY in gods name are they considering a new handheld which is a weird form of successor to the 3DS?

Its like they want the switch to die on arrival

why?

Seriously why not wait till its released and if the switch does good THEN they should work on a slimmer switch.

Forget about a new handheld.

Honestly if they release a new handheld next year then the switch is dead.

I dont even now about the 3ds.

The Switch SHOULD succeed BOTH Wii u AND 3ds.

So if it bombs THEN they can say "look here is our new handheld which is a successor to the switch"

I dont now what Nintendos management are thinking

We NEED new software not new hardware guys! cant they at least wait before having these type of thoughts.

Why make this public! they should keep it internal

The Switch Slim? It's already slim as it is. Maybe without the dock.

Yeah i dont really get HOW slimmer they can make the darn thing

BUT....

here is an idea

what if the Switch Slim will allow for VR support? meaning BOTH switch versions will have Switch support BUT Switch Slim will essentially kick off the whole sharade

my best guess is that its a similar tactik like back in the ds days.
There they said that the gb line wont be ended but continue. This is mostlikely a backup plan if the switch should fail

Yeah i agree with you but i still think its waay too early to consider such things.

They should talk about this internally since making it public knowledge could lead to doubts on the switch in general

A compact Switch with fixed non-removable joycons, a smaller screen, scaled down graphics and a longer battery life would be wise and I'd imagine is almost a certainty. (As long as it uses the same architecture, games library and OS)

As you can see the Switch isn't exactly portable:

A Switch "Slim" would be an entry-level, cheaper option for parents looking for a gift, similar to the 2DS which was very successful in that regard. Not everyone wants to invest in the full experience. Some people only buy systems like the 2DS for just a single game like Pokemon.

My problem isnt with a smaller switch.Heck i own a 2ds but not a 3ds since there were only 20+ games i wanted to play on the system

But my problem is with them talking about this so publically. It could create consumer doubts on the success of switch

Also i think dropping the 3DS this winter 2018 would be ideal. By dropping it i mean stopping 1st party support.

And then working on a smaller switch like you said.

Im unsure about how a 3DS Successor and the switch can coexist

I think that is exactly why they are doing it. Since the Wii U and 3DS use the same servers more or less if they want to drop Wii U online support to save money they would need to get rid of the 3DS servers as well. A 3DS successor would allow them to do just that rather than having to spend money maintaining both the Switch servers and Wii U/3DS servers.

So better be sure and backup all your CIAs and/or download a copy of any games you want to keep for later with Ciangel/3dsestuff before it's too late.

So having a contingency plan equals wanting the Switch to fail? They said the ultimate design and specs will depend on whether the Switch will succeed or not, which is covering all their bases, how does that translate into wanting it to die on arrival?

this is the first time i've seen this reported, and it's from... anime news network? who?

and their source is nikkei, so there's already a 50% chance this is wrong

Cool, I was expecting a revision but not this soon. Hopefully it has better specs and hdd support with the dock and maybe have it connect to the dock wirelessly for wii u games.

I don't know how you'd make it much slimmer, the actual device appears about as thin as I'd even want, and the dock isn't some monstrosity. The only thing I can think is that maybe they mean like a smaller more portable actual Switch, a screen that is smaller would make it more portable and would have a longer lasting battery on every charge. I'm personally not too concerned about the size, I intend to get the messenger carrying bag seen here: https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Everywhere-Messenger-Bag-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N22YAIP
I never carry my N3DS XL in my pocket, despite it being able to fit in there, I keep it in a folio case and I'll bring that with me anytime I want to play it out and about, same will apply to the Switch too.

It's called hedging your bets. This is just so investors are less scared about the newness of the switch (among other things) and don't go bolting for the door because they're silly.

It'll be same/compatible tech, but cheaper so the kids can use it and parents are more willing to pay for it. Think 2ds.

If the switch is successful, they'll make a kid-friendly switch. If it is a huge bomb, they'll have something that's just a beefed up 2ds/3ds with who knows-what compatibility. Really, just expect the switch to become successful and the "switch mini" to be of lesser quality and of cheaper parts aimed at the 5-12 year old market.

Why cant they be reasonable and wait till March 3rd and then around March 31st THEN start discussing the slimmer switch? or 3ds successor?

Planning ahead is good but only if you keep it internal! you dont announce "Hey guys here is the switch! Oh but ALSO we are thinking of making a successor in the form of a handheld even though the switch is a hybrid!"

by annoucing their potential plans so quickly they are reducing the faith that consumers have on the switch

Thats what im hoping for

Ive been using them for years so i personally doubt its wrong but i dont now much about Nikei so having doubts makes sense

Looking back at it, why did they even make the Wii mini? The Wii was plenty small to begin with. I suppose it was more about the cheaper price tag thanks to a lack of features than it was about having a smaller system.

What I think, they announce a 3DS successor now. Just in case the Switch fails. If the Switch on the other hand becomes a wide success, the Switch is the successor to the 3DS and Nintendo will focus everything for it.
