Hello, I'm new to this forum, and I really need to get this question answered, I am sorry if it has before (I tried to find it but no use) or if this is the wrong place to post this, but I'm a newcomer I do hope you will forgive me.

So I succesfully managed to Homebrew my Vwii on the Wii U. Problem is.. I use a 1TB (939GB) WD My Passport, the red small one. In my Black Wii's homebrew, the disc drive is succesfully read with no problem, perfectly, dare I say. Even in FAT32 and NTFS mode. But my Wii U won't read the HDD at all. Or detect it. Why? Is this problem fixable? I really wanted to play Wii and GCN games with the glory of 1080i, it truly makes a difference, for me.

This is what the USB Compatibility List of GBATemp has to say about my drive:

WD My Passport 1 TB USB 3.0 (WDBBEP0010BBK (BL or RD are blue or red))]: Formatted with 10GB FAT32 partition and 990GB NTFS partition for Wii games/PC backups etc. Used Configurable USB Loader and WiiFlow. Worked instantly. Does not require external power supply. Best choice. Works Very Good In WFBS partition 600GB and the rest in NTFS whit WiiFlow and USB Loader GX. Worked like a charm. HDD factory settings are no spindown - used WD program at top of article to verify. Set up first partition FAT32(64kb cluster) 80GB, second partition NTFS. WiiFlow 4.2 as loader of choice - emunand(for Wii/VC) and Gamecube(using Nintendont) on FAT32, Wii(installed to WBFS using WiiBackupManager) on NTFS partition.

I'd really appreciate some help. Someone has said it's possibly a power problem and I have to get a Y button, but I'm not sure..

Thanks in advance.

So that means... the wii u doesn't suggest you to format the HDD when you plug it?

No, not even that. And I've tried every USB plug of the console. Wit the one in the back, takes longer, acts as if it's gonna load it (talking about USB Loader GX) but nothing happens. Maybe it's because the HDD is already formated and has stuff inside.

yup, you need a y-cable, and that's probably why your HDD is not detected, you will hear a click from the HDD once you try to launch USB Loader GX or other apps that read from HDD, this means that the HDD lacks power.

So use a y-cable.

I ended up ordering it, you can order it from Amazon.

Yes, but I need to order it from Amazon Spain, not .com. I'll see if I have any luck and find a Y-Cable somewhere.

As for the Wii, that can still read FAT32 and NTFS, would you recommend me to stay on NTFS or go with FAT32?

FAT32 is always recommend since it is supported by all apps, NTFS on the other hand is not supported by all apps.

That's a bit too complicated for me, I'm too clumsy. But I'll consider that option, see if anyone around me can do that.

It's pretty simple. It's easier than hacking a Wii U, I'm pretty sure you can do it.
Or Google how making one.
Also you probably will waste less money and time making one than buying a cable that is exactly the same thing

Okay, so I bought the USB thingie. Now my Wii U detects the USB, offers to format it. I skip, go to vWii. USB Loader GX won't detect the USB at all, which is weird. I don't know why. WiiFlow does detect my Wii games perfectly, but it won't play them; OS resets (before it was to Wii Menu, but I now put it to reset to Homebrew so it's faster) I have a feeling this is maybe because something in the settings I don't have right. Bear in mind I use a PAL Wii U. As for Nintendon't, it work perfectly. Detects the USB and plays the games nicely. Although I don't know why, and although I have updated it to last version, I somehow lack the feature to play GCN games with the Wiimote. Or maybe I don't know how to play it. Until I get an USB GCN Controller adaptor, I want to at least continue trying the games with it.

So, how can you people help me? I'm a step closer, at least my Wii U can now detect the drive, and it works, just seems to be small loader problems.

It is FAT32, and I'm not sure it's a compatibility problem; now that I bought the cable, my Wii U detects it, and Nintendont plays and detects GCN games perfectly, ON the Wii U. Wiiflow also detects them, but it won't play them, resets the OS, might be something wrong in the settings that I can't figure out, maybe something with the video or region, I don't know.

And I do believe I have it plugged right, as it's detected by the Wii U. I really don't know why USBLoaderGX will detect it perfectly on my black Wii but not my Wii U. I use the same SD card for both, really. So it should be more or less the same config. I also don't have a mode for GX Loader to work with Nintendont, nor the option to play Nintendont with the Wiimote. Oh, and most importantly, indeed all the CiOS and OS are installed correctly, as far as I know.. but will double check everything, just in case.

Swap the 2 plugs that go into the WiiU. Both Wii and vWii require the HDD to be connected to a SPECIFIC port. Wiiflow will see the games, but won't boot them, others (like USB Loader GX) won't even see those.
