So, the Switch supports SDs for extending memory... the memory will probably be formatted in a custom format.... the SD will be like the 3DS' SD in FAT32 or like the Wii U HDD in a custom format?

My opinion:
I think it will be custom format, they're trying to block hackers, and what's better than blocking them from their "entry point"

I think the sd cards will be in a custom format, because the Switch is supposed to support sd cards up to 2TB.

I think the sd cards will be in a custom format, because the Switch is supposed to support sd cards up to 2TB.

SDXC specs are for up to 2TB formatted using exFAT. Nintendo can use their own format but they better make sure it preforms well on a SD card and that it does not cause much if any more wear on the SD card than using exFAT. for example using any journaling file system will cause extra wear.

The DevUnit uses a FAT32 formatted SD Card.
I guess the Retail Unit will use this format, too.

The retail unit will receive an update later to use SDXC so it will not use FAT32 for any cards bigger than 32GB. also the DevUnit may use FAT32 because it is a dev unit and not a retail unit. Nintendo could easily use a custom filesystem for the retail units.

I hope FAT32, nintendo's so called "filesystems" are so annoying to work with.

if it is FAT32, it will be with only a 32GB or less SD Card. Nintendo will roll out an update for SDXC (cards bigger than 32GB and smaller or equal to 2TB)
SDXC specifications use exFAT over FAT32 for various reasons.

My guess is they'll add exfat support. As they say that support isn't there at first for SDXC, I'm guessing it'll only support FAT32 at the beginning, but they're working on adding EXFAT support. It'll most likely support both.

Nintendo has to much backslash.
It will be a normal format ntfs or fat32.
That way people can put there sd in a pc and tranfer photos, and captures video.

But i dont work for the Big N, but that would be the correct way to do things.
Having therr own format (wfbs i believe it was) would just cause more problems with people.
I really do hope they do simply photos for themes, like everything eles

Custom. As open (make backups) as Microsoft's Xbox 360 system was, they still mandated to use their own format and Nintendo's no different either. It makes sense for companies to use their own custom formats.

I personally am leaning towards FAT32/exFAT. For a simple reason - screenshots and (if they add it) gameplay recordings.
There is however a second possibility. Switch will format an SD card to two partitions, a small FAT32 one for stuff mentioned above, and a second, bigger one, for the console's storage.

With a firmware update the Xbox 360 data are stored as files and not like a partition or a different format

Are you referring to game cartridges? It makes sense they use a special format...
I just hope Nintendo stops with the blocks bullshit they had been using to measure space...

How about you educate yourself, say, 4 seconds with google?
FAT32 supports up to 2 TiB with 512 byte clusters.
exFAT supports 128PiB with a theoretical maximum size of 16EiB.
