Hey folks! I've already set up my 3ds with cfw, and my next step is to purchase a Wii U and do the same. However I have two quick questions I hope you can help answer.

My first one is...

If I purchase a new Wii U, will it be under or at the required firmware to put CFW/Homebrew/ etc. on it? I would hate to buy the system only to find out it came installed with firmware that's unhackable. I'm not sure if anyone knows the answer to this but I thought I'd ask.

My second question is..

Which guide should I follow? Obviously I'd prefer the safest guide (bricking terrifies me) and one that only needs SD cards and my PC. In other words, no hard modding with chips and all that jazz.

I'm fairly good at following directions to the T, so if the guide guarantees success as long as i follow it exactly, i should be ok (though absolute success may not be a guarantee for any guide).

Anyway, thank you in advance for any help and advice you can offer.

The latest FW is hackable!

You should see the sticky guides in the Wii U hacking section. We don't really have a Wii u bible like we do 3DS.

Awesome! That's a relief. Yeah i saw the sticky but i always get nervous when there's no one answer, so i thought I'd ask for the veteran's opinions on which route i should take :)

Sure! If you're just looking to play games you would probably just like going with sysnand cfw. If you would like more control and a way less brick chance but you will need a bigger SD you could go with Rednand.

With that rednand, can i still play games? I know the 3ds games are usually CIA files, or 3ds files. What are the wii u files? Would like to be able to transfer those files onto the sd card, shove that into the wii u and play them. That's my main goal

Yes with Rednand you will be able to play games also. I've never done rednand so you might be better reading the stickys but it should just be one program. But you have to have a 64GB sd card.

Just so you know, virtual Wii (the built in Wii) will not work in redNAND. I'm a big fan of CBHC and Haxchi. If you can follow instructions you will be fine.
