I installed A9LH on two N3DS 11.0, using System Transfer / DSi Downgrade. While installing these, their speakers became distorted (either after the firmware downgrade or the CTRtransfer, not sure which), but they became fixed on the last step (firmware update / dspdump).

Modded a third N3DS, on 11.2, using SoundHax. These speakers also became distorted after the CTRtransfer, however they never got fixed after finishing the full installation. I'm 100% certain I did not miss any steps (using the website guide).

The speakers seem to only crack whenever they play sounds louder than a certain threshold, in most cases only when the volume is set above 80%.

Is there any known solution to fixing this bug? If not, I'd like to try reinstalling the 11.2 firmware, so is there an easy way to do that? Or a safe way to downgrade my firmware to any level, so I could re-update back to 11.2 in system settings?

Thanks.

That sounds like hardware issue actually. A9LH won't effect your speakers like that. If it was software, it would be consistent. It wouldn't matter if it the volume was high or low, there would still be a consistent distortion to them. And more than likely a distortion with headphones.
If it's something that only happens when the volume is above a specific level, that sounds more like your speakers are broken.

They were fine before starting the mod though, this particular device was being used for about 2 months with no issues including the day of.

Correlation does not necessarily equal causation
If this were A9LH, it would be a software issue, which means it would be consistent. Test to see if the issue happens with headphones.

on a side note, it might be a cause of running the alpha-beta fasthax packaged with safehax as it seems alot of people are having issues with system services after its run. (at least those with wireless connectivity issues i havent heard reports of sound issues atm)

It's equally possible, but again it would be software and be consistent. If it's something that happens at a high level of volume, chances are they speakers are broken.

It's a fairly new device, so I find it less likely that the speakers just decided to start breaking at the exact same time I decided to mod it.

Is it uncommon for sound to be distorted during modding? Because each one I've modded has had distorted sounds, whether new or old.

nintendo prides themselves in using simplistic technology, just try headphones first if they do the same thing it may be a software problem

ìm a noob but here goes
as far as i know a9lh is a software thing, not hardware
it only writes somewhere in your console to make installing cias and all that possible
it does not affect the consoles internals just like Crystal said in another thread

Shit breaks. Did you test the headphones?
I've never of an issue of install A9LH causing sound issues. CFWs used to cause issues with the Super 3DS on New3DS.

the closest thing that would affect internals is fasthax, but it should be better now as it cleans up itself now.

ive found that only fasthax rc2 actually properly cleans up. so id say were close to a stable release

Sound is just fine using headphones. But it's far less convenient to have to pull out headphones all the time, the owner doesn't even like wearing headphones in the first place.

I'm not saying A9LH or CFW causes the sound distortion, but the downgrade/ctr step to get to that stage has always been distorted on the devices I modded (1 o3ds, 3 n3ds). This is the first one where I used the soundhax method, and where the sound distortions remained. The other 3 devices were fixed when updating back to 11.2 (which is why I wanted to try firmware downgrade, so I could re-update and see if that fixes it).

Just because headphones work fine, does that definitively say that this is a speaker hardware issue? I don't know anything about the 3ds software, but for example couldn't the headphone jack have a different sound driver than the onboard speakers, meaning one could malfunction without affecting the other?

then likely its just the speakers going bad, and no theyre both talked to over the same interface so unless you started editing the nand with a hex editor itd likely not be a software issue, but may i ask when it started?

As I said, sometime during the firmware downgrade/ctrtransfer steps. I can't be certain since the time spent actually hearing any sounds is minimal - only the home menu makes sounds since all the mod/hack stuff is silent. I didn't really idle on any of the steps for very long.

I would assume the ctrtransfer is responsible, since the soundhax method doesn't involve a downgrade step.

If the speakers work, then a hardware issue. Downgraders, A9LH, CFWs, ect. are all software based. Which means any error present in them should be consistent as well should be able to be replicated.

indeed however some devices can start to cacle at loud volumes but work fine on lower ones (such as headphones) as far as i know its definitly a hardware issue

I mean, I experienced sound distortion on 4 out of 4 devices, which is consistent as far as my experiences go at least.

did you use dspdump like the guide says?

Yes, I've triple checked the guide and I'm sure I didn't miss any steps.
