Who gives two fucks even if it were true? I heard no one complaining about SNES specs when that was released. It's about the game library, not the effing retard clock speeds or GPU.
Well, some of us do. Is it a sin now in nintendo-land to want to avoid low poly counts, semi 2d/3d trees and low res? Simply look at the Wii games run at 4k in Dolphin (not even WiiU) and see what difference horsepower can do. It simply gives developers the freedom to do more. Some will use it some will not. But it is good to be there. It is the same reason people buy 2 litre engine cars instead of 800cc ones. Yes, you can pretty much tour the world with a 800cc anyway. But you can do it in more comfort in a 2000 one.
Do not forget that the times of the SNES were completely different. SNES was more powerful than the genesis anyway and even the difference between them was small for some people's eyes. I could understand the difference all right though. I preferred the SNES, partly because of mind blowing experiences the genesis was unable to have, like DKC and starwing.
Also, most people (like me i guess) are worried about 3rd parties not joining the Switch train. Last time i checked nintendo was not really good financially and they need a hit. I fail to see how another round of WiiU can be what they need, or what their shareholders want to hear at the end of the fiscal year.
The conversation about horsepower is not just about power. It is for what power enables and brings to the future of the console. I am happy with how 1st party titles on the WiiU look, because by now i consider it older tech. Some of the Zelda scenery though, look already dated to me. It will be a fantastic game, absolutely. But it would be better in my eyes to not outperform, but at least compete 100% with the ps4. IF they manage to make it as close to the Xbox one as they say (very much doubt it) then we might actually enjoy big 3rd party hits on the Switch. If not... all the japanese franchises in the world will not move nintendo from a very distant 3rd place. And in case people think nintendo is happy there, do not forget what the reason is, to run a company. Not only to survive, but to expand. If nintendo's expansion plan/strategy is to milk money from mobile devices like pokemon go/mario run and converging all the 3ds games in an incredibly underpowered home console (for the time of its release) i cannot see any expansion at all.
It is good to be a fanboy. I love ninty. But until they confirm specs and we see what it is capable off, allow me to hold a small basket with WiiU rewritten all over it. Just a few days now.
