Can you install "Wii" VC Eshop games on a USB HDD using WUPInstaller , and play them using Haxchi on WiiU?

I have Haxchi installed and working very nicely with a 1 TB USB HDD....thank you devs!

My vWii has not been touched since I first bought the console years ago. I already have a real Wii with USB Loader GX and a USB HDD. So I'm not really interested in hacking the vWii (if I don't have too)

I just simply wanted to know if I can use WiiU USB Helper to download Wii VC titles like Super Mario Galaxy,etc and install them on my WiiU formatted USB HDD using an SD card via WUPInstaller.... and can I just simply play them using HaxChi via sigpatcher? If not allowed on the USB HDD, then what about on a large SD card?

I've been reading A LOT over the last couple of days and haven't been able to find the answers to this.

Any help is appreciated....

Yes, you can. Exactly as you described. Load SignPatched Sysnand, load wupinstaller, install your Wii VC games.

Play them on SignPatched Sysnand.

Done.

Will anything bad (brick, etc) happen if I try to play a DLC, Eshop or non-USA game without loading SignPatched Sysnand? Or will I just get some error and have to power down the system and reboot?

No need to hack vWii.

It's impossible to get a brick as long as you don't mess up with System files.

I understood what Haxchi did and it features with Region patching,etc.... I was more worried about playing a VC / DLC / eshop / other region game (already installed) without full signature and region patching.


That makes me feel better now. Glad I can install a few great VC "Wii" games on the WiiU USB HDD without having to resort to vWii hacking.....awesome!

If you've played the game in vWii mode on your Wii U before, the saves will already be there. I installed a VC Wii game and was surprised that it still had the saves from when I had played the game in vWii mode before.

Thank-you...good to know. This is the type of thing I was being worried about not knowing. Luckily, there aren't really any non-USA VC Wii games I want.

Wrong. I tried SMG2 PAL VC on my US Wii U, it boots up fine (need to patch your Wii U to load any region though).

After reading this I thought I would try New super Mario bros wii but it does not show up on Wiiu usb helper for me. I only see the DS version. I know that only some wii games are there but according to the wiki list this is supposed to be one of them. Any ideas?

Wii U USB Helper's library isn't complete yet, possibly due to some issues with getting the title keys or even that title keys site itself.

Ahh yes I just looked up if the game was released in usa but not if its on that site. looks like that site only has japan version...oh well.

The tool get's everything from "that" title key site. So that's the point where "fixes" have to be done.
If you know someone who owns NSMBWii for Wii U just let him use tik2sd and provide the key to that key site, restart Wii U USB Helper -> profit.

Just for clarification purposes... This can be done with WiiU Wii VC titles. If you are trying to install vWii VC titles to be played on the WiiU side, this will not work.

Good for you to clarify. I knew the difference myself, but good for others to know.

I have had no issues so far installing anything USA related that is eshop, DLC, CFW Only, legit, VC "Wii" (Super Mario Galaxy,etc),VC DS (very cool on WiiU) using WUP Installer (with SignPatched Sysnand where it's needed), and playing works great (with HAXCHI SignPatched Sysnand for anything VC,dlc,eshop).



Note: it seems WiiU USB Helper cannot copy to SD while downloading at the same time....at least for me.

As a result, while downloading, I just copied the needed game folders (from GAME,DLC,UPDATE,Eshop) over directly to SD card myself from the WiiU USB Helper download directory. I just had to rename to folders that had odd characters like the "TM",etc (LEGO games, Assassin's Creed, etc) so WUPInstaller would work with those.


All runs great when launched HAXCHI SignPatched Sysnand (where needed). If I forget to run HAXCHI for anything VC,DLC,eshop, I just get an error about the DLC being corrupt, or the Nintendo Network Id for this title has been deleted. I just ignore the errors and run HAXCHI and it runs fine. Wonderful! I'll probably have all the "HAXCHI" required stuff all grouped together / folders to make it easier.


One thing I noticed though.... if I go into Data Management for my USB Drive, I get a request saying that my drive has a lot of unnecessary files...would I like to delete them? I have always said no.... is this something I should worry about....and should I ever let it "delete the unnecessary files"???

I could be mistaken, but I believe this is caused by a ticket conflict. Whenever you run a title, the ticket is installed to your WiiU. Since tickets from non-legit purchases are "faked", the real ticket on your system cannot be used. So, if you want to play disc-less, you will need to manually remove the official installed ticket, first. Someone else please chime in here, if I'm explaining this improperly.

Still haven't fixed Wii Party U yet....don't know how to do what TiMeBoMb4u2 is possibly suggesting....


Another question as well though.... what is the maximum amount of games I can install via WUPInstaller? Will I eventually run out of spaces on the Home Menu for game icons if I install a lot of games at once? (I've only got 1.5 screens left at this point) If the icons spaces run out....will WUP just stop...or will it cause an issue?

I know I can drag games into folders....but I wondered if the system will just make more screens available for more icons? With only 1.5 screens left right now... I don't want to install 50+ games via WUP if it will mess up things. What about others Accounts on my Wii U?
