Hello there,

I've been using Loadiine for a long time on a 5.5.1 Wii U using the browser exploit and self hosted files (on an android phone). Now there's a lot of new exploit and I don't know which one is the best for my situation.

What I would like to be able to do :
  • Play Wii U backups online (and with DLC)
  • Play Wii/GC backups & N64/DS/SNES/NES roms
What gear I have :
  • 128GB SD
  • 1TB HDD
  • ANDROID PHONE

Is that achievable ? Thanks :)

Doing both (GC games and Wii U games with online acces) is not possible atm as both need USB but
  • Wii U games need the Wii U filesystem (which is neither FAT32 nor NTFS nor anything else)
  • Nintendont (GC) needs FAT32 and won't allow two drives being connected at the same time
To use Wii U games, download with Wii U USB Helper, use SigPatcher2Sysmenu or Mocha and install via WUP Installer y mod.
To use Nintendont (GC) use a Drive that is formatted to FAT32 with 32 K cluster size.

However: The only solution for you would be either to give up playing Wii U games online by using Loadiine with games from SD or give up playing GC games as Wii games would work in USB Loader GX with two drives attached (one for Wii U, one for vWii mode hidden with UStealth) or plug in/out drives whenever you enter vWii mode to play Wii/GC games.

That's why I'm waiting deadly on an opportunity to install Wii U games to a FAT32 USB drive with WUP Installer but I don't know whether someone's really working on that right now as this doesn't seem to be a "big public need of the community" right now for whatever reason.

Edit: To avoid having to use your Android phone you could use Haxchi. It injects the opportunity to launch homebrew (e.g. the Homebrew Launcher or Signature Patches) into a DS VC game which you would have to buy in the eShop.

You can in theory do Wii u, Wii, and GC. Install Wii u games to nand and you can use a 'hidden' USB to play the other two systems.

You can install WiiU games to Nand and USB HDD/pendrive (connected on 1 usb port) and play Wii/NGC from a Ustealth USB HDD on other usb port (provided both drives have external power supply).----> or else swap discs before use.
Use SD card for other homebrew like N64/SNES/GB emulators and Roms and if needed for Wiiu 'Loadiine' games
Use SD card (yours is with 128Gb big enough) also for RedNand (use mocha) so you can install out of region stuff.

above is my setup and works like a charm
oh....you can also install wiiware/WII VC in a wii rednand which is build-in in USB loader... more games!!!!!!!

The Wiiu is really a swiss knife... :)

As someone who just modded his Wii U last week, I can recommend this guide which I successfully used myself and will help you get started: https://github.com/FlimFlam69/WiiUTutorial/wiki

You can also install Coldboot Haxchi so that you don't have to run Haxchi every time you boot the Wii U. I personally didn't bother with RedNAND nor Mocha. CBHC is more than enough, but it is risky, I suppose. I mean, it can brick your Wii U with ease, but there's a laundry list of stuff to not do, and most of it is just common sense. I've had zero problems with CBHC over the past week or so.

From my understanding, you can go the hardmod route if you want to play Gamecube games on your Wii U, but it probably won't be pretty. I believe that if you solder Gamecube controller ports to the designated area on the Wii U's motherboard, it'll allow you to play Gamecube games through vWii.
Whether or not you'd be able to install the necessary modifications (I have a feeling they were called something other than cIOS but I honestly don't remember because it's been years since I touched Wii hacking) to play "backups", I don't know (probably not, at least at this stage, from what I've seen) but you'd then be able to play retail Gamecube games. And then you'd need to cut your Wii U up to fit in the new modifications. But hey, if that's something you want to do, you're welcome to it.

Me, I have a Wii and a Gamecube, both modded and ready to play games if I want to do so. Though I realise this isn't the easiest solution for everyone, I'd recommend getting one of those two as well if you want further functionality, rather than trying to cram it all into the Wii U. It's possible - if not now, it will be eventually - but it's not a particularly great idea to try right now.

I don't recommend Coldboot Haxchi at all since it's still a bit risky. "Normal" Haxchi is useful enough. Just my two cents.

You probably want a second harddisk, one for Wii U-Games and one for Wii/GC-Games (I asume your vWii is modded already?). Haxchi+Mocha will do anything you want (you can possibly skip Mocha, but it's a good addition to Haxchi).

You basically start the Homebrew Launcher as you used to and start the Haxchi installer from there. You can install the Homebrew Launcher channel afterwards.

If you want to install games afterwards, look up the Brazilian Exploit.

Thanks everyone for your replies :)

You can install the Wii U games to the USB HDD and play Wii/NGC games from the SD card.
That's great, would be the perfect solution for me.
  • Wii U games on HDD with online & DLC ability
  • Wii / GC / ROMS and stuff on SD

I'd like to keep the setup simple, so no double HDD with external power supply for me. Also I have the "Brain Age" NDS virtual console game so I will be able to get rid of the android phone server and launch Haxchi right from the Wii U menu.

Also, do I need RedNand to play with non legit DLC ? Or is Haxchi enough ?

Haxchi is enough for that.

Alright thanks everyone

I successfully installed Haxchi using a NDS title and the homebrew channel on my wii u homescreen.
I'm currently downloading a title using uTikdownloadHelper and then will install it with WUP installer mod.

So far, so good.
Use wuphax from fix to easy hack your vWii to play backup wii games and GC games
Will look into that once the 'Wii U' side of things is done, thanks. BTW can it play Wii&GC games from SDcard ?

install uTikdownloadHelper to get any tik game file, and use WiiUSBdownloadHelper to perfectly download your usb games
What's the difference between those two ? Currently using uTikdownloadhelper

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also will I be able to 'import' my saves from loadiine into those new games installed on the USB HDD ?
