One of the corners of my old 3ds XL broke and every time I try to close it, it feels like it breaks a little more. I'm scared that the thing that detects if my console is open or closed goes nuts and starts putting me in sleep mode randomly mid-game, so I decided I won't close it again until I get a new one next year.

So I was wondering, is there a way that you could put the console in sleep mode manually to save battery, or a hack that lets me do so?

A... magnet ?
This worked on the DS, so I assume it would work on the 3DS too.

If it still uses a magnet to detect when the console is closed, I wouldn't worry about it detecting the console as closed when it's not, as the hardware that detects that has nothing to do with the hinge.
