GBAtemp's GOTY 2016 - Round 1...FIGHT!

Welcome to GBAtemp's 2nd annual game of the year voting thread! It's time to pick what you think was the best release of 2016, all the way from A to Z! The staff has agreed upon 50 games which will be up in the poll above so that the community can choose their favorite title from 2016. Out of the 50 listed, 25 of these games will be making it to round 2. For this round, you can choose 5. Happy voting!

Odin Sphere came out on PS2 and Twilight Princess HD is a HD remake.
Should those remakes/reissues/remasters really be in the list?
I mean, they aren't new games.

Anyway, voted.
As stated in my review of the game, Odin Sphere is more than the average HD remake, adding in enough changes to be a new experience. TP:HD gets the spot because Nintendo isn't that big on HD remakes, and the site has gotten flak for not having enough Nintendo representation before so I wanted to be as inclusive as possible. Otherwise we would have had to add in Yokai Watch 2 as a choice and no one wanted that.

Diamond and Pearl were the worst pokemon games imo, i actually enjoyed S&M quite a bit. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though :) I agree DOOM was pretty good though

What why? Diamond and Pearl are actually my favorite pokemon games.
Not to completely derail the thread but...eh, why not. DPPT had an awesome soundtrack, a good region, decent Pokemon, and a good amount of things to do. (Underground 4 lyfe)

However, I think what holds it back the most is the sluggish battle system. D/P/Pt/HG/SS were all fantastic games imo but that darn gen 4 engine is a blight to humanity (at least slow 2D is better than frame dropping 3D, I'm looking at you, sun and moon. So a lot of people wound up giving up on the games which is a shame. Even if DP got a remake on 3DS, it'd retain a janky battle system. We can pray for an optimized switch version one day...perhaps.
