While it has been rumored that Nvidia ditched plans to continue its Shield brand because of the partnership with Nintendo, aquired pictures by androidpolice suggest that Nvidia has plans for a Shield TV refresh in 2017. The pictures show a seemingly unchanged Shield TV and Shield Remote along with a rather unique redesigned Shield Controller. Androidpolice further claims that the new Shield TV will come in two sizes, though with differences unknown.

It would be kind of interesting if the partnership allowed for Switch gamed to be ported to the Shield, but I somehow doubt that will be the case

Or at least partially Android.

I can see why they would still do this. This is more aimed at the Android TV people. Might get some Switch games, but this mainly for already existing games on Android.

So, erm... Which part of this thread is news and which is a rumour?

As far as i see it, a site got hold of a few photos. It's all interesting and Fancy, but this whole "it is rumored" and "may suggest" mainly tells me that nvidia announced or confirmed Jack shit.

Honestly this doesn't surprise me in the least, i mean come on Nintendo does whatever it wants to do regardless of the other companies around them. Nvidia needs to do Nvidia and the last shield wasnt that bad as a media center pc, if this one is priced right it could really take off!!

Good job nvidia, finally a better looking controller, i hope it plays well though, d-pad looks questionable, the start and back buttons at the bottom? So is like common console controllers now. :P

But seriously, new shield tv? I hope is worth upgading if it has any differences than the one i own now. I had figure they would least make the Shield portable and shield tablet, put the tegra x1 in those two and resell it for like $ 200, I would have bought them all over again already if they did that sooner. :D

I wish they had done it already but now i'm not sure if they willl, it sucks, the tegra x1 would have been great sellers for the two model shield devices.^_^

Well it's official now. A Shield TV with 4k HDR and Amazon video support. From the looks of it though, it does appear that the new Shield will use the same X1 SoC from the old Shield. Well there goes the Dolphin machine.

"Despite the portable Nintendo-branded console, Nvidia is set to release an Android home box." :P

Their Shield tablet line, not the entire brand.

My stepdad was personally working on the CPU going inside the Switch, as well as the new Shield TV. It's confirmed coming, I just don't know when. I don't live with him, I saw him on Christmas when he told me about the new Shield TV. His NDA won't let him peep a word about the switch though, sadly...

No offense to the OP but the title isn't doing it for me. Shield tv SUCESSOR? Yeah right, more like the PS4 Pro rip off. :glare:

I had high hopes for this announcement but they have been shot in multiple places. :(

I'm all for better looking graphics in games but i could care less for 4K and HDR, i had the same 1080P tv for over a decade and it still works, brand by vizio. I just wanted a more powerful console and the ability to play my steam library games. Instead we get THE SAME THING NOW WITH 4K and HDR.

I don't want STREAMING GAMES from pc or cloud, i wanna play the games i already paid for, not pay for cloud game services or have my pc on just to stream a game i could use on my pc.

I would have even accepted Shield Portable Tegra X1 or X2 remodel reselling, Shield tablet X1 or X2, but this is probably just as bad as sony ps4 pro. I'm sorry, the only cool thing i can say about it is the controller desperatly needed a tweak and it has, i just might buy that. :nayps3:

Yeah i know, i'm sorry, just upset at this..... disappoitment. I expected better from nvidia, but i gave them too much credit. I'm a sucker i guess. :P

Well nintendo switch, i'm counting on you, you are my last hope for the year. Do me proud. :)
No worries, I'm kinda upset too. Was hoping to replace my Shield TV with something that runs Dolphin better. Maybe Nintendo has a (timed) exclusive license for the new pascal SoC, so Nvidia had to re-use the old X1 SoC for this.
