I've recently installed the latest versions Haxchi and CBHC and those are working well.

I'm a bit confused as to what else to install in terms of the other core mods, specifically RedNAND, sysNAND and Mocha. I read somehwere that the latest version of CBHC had CFW built-in, so what advantages will these other CFW mods give me?

I can see that RedNAND seems to give you a copy of your NAND to install homebrew etc. there to prevent you accidentally doing something to your actual NAND.

From my perspective, I'm just looking for a way to play homebrew and to play games from any region off my USB drive.

Any guidance appreciated.

First sysNAND is just the internal NAND in your wii u. All wiiu have it installed. What your thinking of is sysNAND with sig patches.
redNAND is as you stated a copy of your NAND on your sd card. redNAND isn't the only way to install homebrew to your homemenu (but it was)

It depends from cfw to cfw but all of them (expect the very early one) have sig patches which is what most want.

From my perspective, I'm just looking for a way to play homebrew and to play games from any region off my USB drive.

CBHC and its internal cfw should be enough for you then.

In my opinion the easiest way is to use Mocha. I use sysNand with an cfw.img compiled by myself but I will change to Mocha.

RedNand is recommended if you want to try dangerous things, For the rest of us is not necessary.

Sigpatched sysNAND is basically sysNAND with signature check patches applied, so you can play homebrew and games without issues.

Mocha is a Wii U custom firmware that has a lot of features, such as supporting sysNAND and redNAND, redirecting OTP and SEEPROM, etc.

If you just want to play games or homebrew for whatever reason, sigpatched sysNAND with Mocha can go for you. If you really want System Config Tool to install your stuff, use redNAND.

P.S. No offense, but seriously, I don't see why 90% of Wii U hackers today are using sigpatched sysNAND and coldboothax (or CBHC); it's like they started with redNAND and normal Haxchi, then they started to think sigpatched sysNAND was a better use alongside coldboothax and more and more people have used it ever since, despite @iAqua trying to get people to switch from sysNAND to redNAND due to sigpatched sysNAND basically putting your system at risk of brick with installing system titles and stuff. I know, I am one of the only users left to still use redNAND :ha:

Also still use rednand because I like to be able to restore the backup of it I made in case I royally screwed up. And I'm sure given enough time I will. Never just content playing games

So, as I've already installed CBHC are you saying that has sigpatches built-in, so I just boot to sysNAND as normal and I can install and play games from any region?

I'm not putting two and two together on why the need for Mocha either.

Yes you can. (I'm not sure about region free)

The thing is most people want simple and easy. Just launch and your done. Even devs like FIX94 like that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but most of the brick risk comes from not testing Haxchi by itself on a DS game first and going straight to CBHC. Generally if regular Haxchi works for you, so should the subsequent CBHC install.

OK, thanks xtehman166.

Can someone confirm that I can install disc / eShop games from any region if I only have CBHC installed and no other mods such as Mocha? I'm assuming that you use the same methods to install, e.g. the mod installer program.

One final, potentially stupid question. How do I know that I'm in a sigpatched sysNAND? Are there any visual signs that you are in it? I've watched a few videos, including ones where Mocha has been installed, however they just show it looking like the normal Wii dashboard. The reason I'm asking is because if you install out of region games and your not in a CFW, then you might brick the WiiU (I thought that used to be the case)?

If you have cbhc booting system menu they sig patches are always on.

So out of region games need patches to work.

Correct. The bricks also come from trying to move the DS game to a USB location.

Great. Do you carry on just using utilities like uTikDownloadHelper on the PC and then WUPinstaller to install or have things moved on to better things now?

Yeah I use that just to keep it simple. But I use the wupinstaller y mod to install a few games at the same time.

OK, clearly showing my lack of knowledge generally. I thought that sig patches gave you the ability to run anything, i.e. unsigned code and therefore it would run anything from any source or region? Or is that where something like Mocha comes in as I can see the features on that say gives region free.

CBHC booting to system menu is region free. No patches needed for out of region. And no, you don't need Mocha or redNAND. You can use CBHC to accomplish what you need. And everyone that says it's risky is just being stupid. Driving is risky if you don't follow the instructions.

No I meant per game patches. Have you tried running 3d world jpn on usa with sig patches? Oh you can't as you need to patch the content folder.

So, just to be absolutely clear. I can install eShop games from any region (which are installed on my USB drive and appear on the WiiU system menu) and I don't have to do any patching (other than for updates)?

The guy said he installed cbhc, so this is absolute rubbish for him I f you have haxchi or cbhc, mocha is pointless. End of.
