Homebrew I'm about to Homebrew my 3DS, anyway to make sure it stays that way?

I just bought a used New* Nintendo 3DS XL that is only on Ver. 9.5.0-22U.
I'm about to use one of the methods on this website. I want to make sure I don't get screwed over by some Nintendo update.

Is there a way to make sure an update won't wreck my Homebrew? If not is there at least a way to avoid any updates? Also are certain types of installation better than others? I'm looking at the BrowserHax and that looks like it'd be the easiest.

I've had bad luck when it came to Homebrew in the past and I want to make sure things go my way for once.

If you get the update nag when using Browserhax, it won't work and you'll have to use another entrypoint. All 3DS systems will only download the system update. It will never update automatically. You have to physically update your system.

I'm not too worried about that. I haven't even connected it to the internet yet. I can also use some of the other exploits on the list.

Just note that you should only use Browserhax to setup Menuhax as Browserhax is not very stable and should not be used as your entrypoint just for downgrading.

I totally forgot to mention this.
Will I still be able to use the eShop and online multiplayer after I do this?
The eShop was always demanding me to update before it'd let me in.

The best way to prevent updates from wrecking homebrew would be to go for Arm9LoaderHax, there's a nice guide about it at http://3ds.guide, it lets you have an upgraded system while still keeping homebrew and whatnot.

If you don't want to go for that for some reason, I'd reccomend at least downgrading to 9.2 and setting up a CFW w/ an emuNAND that you can keep up to date.

Both of these methods allow for you to play online and use the eShop once setup, but the emuNAND method is more risky over the long term, because you can accidentally do various things to lose it.

If you really don't want to do either of these, iirc you can use ctrhttpwn or similar to be able to play online/use eshop, but I'm not experienced with doing so.

Yes you will be able to do both of those things after setting up a CFW, preferably arm9loaderhax. Kitloth linked you to the best guide to follow.

I installed MenuHax via BrowserHax.
So even if I update I'll be okay? I mean I don't plan on updating anytime soon
but I don't want to mess something up and lose all of this precious work.

No, if you update you won't be okay. Menuhax doesn't work on 11.2.

Yes, by using ctr-httpwn. However, I'm not sure it'll work for your firmware. You're on 9.5.0? You may have to use HANS to spoof your system version to access the eShop, and I believe some games that require recent updates may be unplayable.

Honestly, if I were in your position, I would go through the process to install A9LH.

9.5 doesn't have the nag. Not to mention, up to 10.6 it can be bypassed easily.

I believe the latest eShop CIA will also need to be installed, but it won't work as it requires at least 9.6.

If you truly have arm9loaderhax, and holding selevt on boot brings you to the luma config, you're safe. Forever. Update and do whatever, you're using a custom firmware. Homebrew is a thing of the past as now you can do literally anything with no downsides whatsoever

I went from emunand+menuhax to A9LH yesterday, and i still miss the old way which felt like you had more of a layer of protection there with a bit longer process to load things up and things were a bit more seperated. (I know there are protections in place, I just have a bit of a harder time believing it with more behind the scenes, plus I still probably have to get used to it.)

If you are familiar with Android then think of A9LH as installing a custom bootloader and TWRP while menuhax+emunand is more like using towelroot plus one of those 2nd init tricks. Obviously having a custom recovery is safer than not having one.

Yes, I'm familiar with Android. I've rooted most of my Android phones until recently. It's not worth voiding the warentee.

Either way, I'm going through with it. I just need to put the apps and ROMs for Emulators.
I want to be prepared so I don't have to remove my Micro SD Card later. I'm not super happy with having to unscrew the back of it every time.
I had to buy a specific screwdriver set just to do so.
