PS1/2 PS2 takes up to 30 seconds to launch game?

So, I managed to kill my last PS2 trying to mochip it (RIP) but I found a new PS2 in working condition at Value Village (along with a PS1 and Zelda: Majora's Mask with a cool holographic label). Problem is, it takes upwards of 3 minuted to load games most of the time. I know for a fact that the issue is NOT caused by the disc drive or laser since I replaced the drive with the one from my last PS2, which loaded games fine. I think it might be something along the lines of a firmware issue, since it's not the disc drive, and I made sure to clean out as much of the dust as I could. Any ideas?

Well if you have fmcb you can try out OpenPS2, if this also loads slowly via smb, some internal parts of your PS2 might be damaged.
Fmcb only works until some specific revisions of the PS2 were released that fixed it, but if yours is comptable, there are memory cards available that already have it installed so you don't have to do it yourself and those are pretty cheap from my experience.
On an unrelated note I once bought a Nexus 7 (2012) and first it was nice and fast.
After some time it got slower and slower, because Asus put some cheap*** memory in there that got worse over time, so maybe the long loading times are related to some damaged memory part on your PS2?

If the cutscenes are lagging, then I can almost assure you that it's the laser assembly. I doubt it's a firmware issue. Try setting up FMCB and play games off a HDD if possible.

I haven't got FMCB, but I'm planning on either modchipping it or using a modded HDD.

Cutscenes don't lag or anything, and I've already ruled out the laser. Is it possible to install FMCB without a premodded PS2? I haven't got any of the games you can exploit to install it.

Yes, the modded memory card is automatically loaded on startup.
Just checked up on prices of memory cards with it preinstalled and they are still pretty cheap.
Ok it seems to be compatible with PS2s until serial number 90004 8a.

Is it possible to install FMCB without a premodded PS2? I haven't got any of the games you can exploit to install it.

If you have a fat PS2 and a network adapter, you can write FMCB (called FHDB in this case since it's installing to the hard drive) to the hard drive directly using a program like hddcopy with a premade image, no exploit game needed.

Nope. Laser assembly is fine. I was EXTREMELY careful taking it apart, didn't bump it or anything.

Nope. Happens with every game I try, unfortunately.

If happens with every game, then it´s the laser. You can check que connections, and if the flat cables are not damaged and try again. try also audio disks to see if happens. Sounds like the speed of the data is not being transfered properly to the system. like when you have a bad usb cable and take hours to transfer something.

Again, I'm 100% sure it's not the laser. Everything is hooked up correctly, I double checked everything before assembly, and I made sure that both disc drives have the issue. If it's a data transfer speed issue, is there a fix for that? Or is it even a known issue in the first place?
