A friend of mine bought a used O3DS from a shady person it seems.
He was lead to believe that it functioned properly, but as you can see by the title, not entirely.

Before you ask, yes, I tried to access safe mode by holding A + Up + L + R. Multiple times even. All I get is a black screen.

When I boot it normally it opens up the menu and seems to work quite nicely. The apps also seem to be working just fine (opened up the camera app and a game cartridge, I can test the others too if needed).

The problem happens when accessing the System Settings, where all I get is a black screen. Also, while in the menu or in a game, it will occasionally freeze, forcing the need for a hard reset.

I don't know what firmware it's on, as my friend didn't receive that kind of info and the guy who sold it to him remains unreachable. Also, I can't setup any internet connection because of obvious reasons, and the one that's already set up (if there is one, that is) is probably not worth tracking down.

So my question to you guys, is there anything I can do, or try to do at least, to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance :)

I saw a post similar to yours. He had a frankenfirm that caused errors on the 3DS after not much more than 1 minute, causing the 3DS to power off.
