I'm not fully knowledgeable with how the Wii U homebrew is now with all the recent changes but I do recall that once its formatted on the Wii U end it makes it pretty much encrypted and unreadable on PC or any other device. It would be cool if you could have both Wii U games, Wii, and Gamecube all on one HDD but it pretty much sounds like the HDD would be dedicated to solely Wii U games thanks to the way it formats the drive.

As of now, no, that's what I'm waiting for myself. I heard @NWPlayer123 and some others were talking about GS decryption, but I don't think that went anywhere

i currently use 2 hard drives plugged in at the same time. you can do this with ustealth. However, this does not work for gc games through nintendont as having 2 drives plugged in causes it to hang on launch even if you launch games through autoboot and a loader. same applies if you use d2x non-alt which supports only one usb port, doesn't matter nintendont will still freeze. My solution to this problem was to buy this https://www.amazon.ca/Sabrent-4-Por...qid=1481680505&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+hub+switch

That lets you easily switch between two drives and causes no problems between the two. Use d2x alt for hotswapping hard drive capabilities. Now you can have Wiiu, gc, and wii games on the same console. With retroarch, you can have literally every nintendo game, except n64 sadly

These solutions are not what I was hoping for. Maybe SALT has something up their sleeve in regards to this.

That power switch thing is a nice idea I'll give you that.

At this point you should stick with getting a big SD card until we can do more with HDD.

Some people don't what to shell out close to 100$ for an sd card for all their games especially when they used a hdd for the original wii. The switch method works great and an adapter as such will cost you even less than 10$ on aliexpress. 10$ is for prime shipping on amazon haha.

Its not a matter of the money (a little bit is) but I wanted to set up someone's Wii U for Christmas to play every Nintendo console. NES, SNES, and N64 can be played on homebrew channel while Gamecube has Nintendont and Wii has Wiiflow, I wanted to also give them Wii U games but now its a decision whether to give them Wii U games or Gamecube and Wii. I'll wait till homebrew gets more advanced, dont think having to buy two HDDs is a proper solution at this time.

Fair enough I pulled my HDD from some old laptops I found on the side of the road. The laptops yes were ancient and broken but they left the 2.5 hard drives in. 10$ enclosure and boom 250gb for games

Also what do you mean n64? There is no n64 for wiiu

The number of gamecube and wii games still worth playing will easily fit on a $20 SD card. You don't need the entire library.

i disagree. Read my thread on this topic: https://gbatemp.net/threads/2-connected-usb-hdds-using-ustealth.451454/
I'm able to run all my GC/Wii/WiiU content stored on permanently connected 2TB drives without the need for any port switcher or having to touch anyhing.

For all the past gen consoles I set up emulators to be access by Wii mode. Does that not count?

I am talking about unpowered drives which are much more common.

Oh that's what you meant. Yeah retroarch is out not so it's pretty much a direct upgrade and accessible without loading the vwii. No n64 yet though, although I wouldn't even really consider it working that well on vwii through not64 anyways

I don't know what retroarch is (I do hear that name a lot these days) but all the emulators from homebrew channel seem good enough to do what needs to be done. This is just something I set up for myself years ago when I used my Wii for homebrew and they are able to get to the games no problem. That's all that matters to me.

psxr, n64 are simply not possible on the wii because of its lack of hardware (or lack of optimization). the wiiu on the other hand...

When I used Wii64 years ago on the Wii I remember it worked fairly well. The only games that were unplayable was anything from Rare. I was able to get from start to finish with Banjo Kazooie, there was some discoloring but other than that no crashing or frame drops.

I also remember Mario Party crashing whenever a board was completed.
