Hey guys,

I have an o3DS that I purchased some time ago and put rxTools on it. When I cold boot, the screen flashes a few different colours then shows the rxTools logo, then boots into the CFW. I hadn't used my 3DS for a little while and it has been asking me to upgrade the FW. I decided to come here to find out the steps, but I see that rxTools is dead and luma and corbneik are the new kings.

The problem is I don't know where to start for the upgrade! I R so noob, that I dont even know how my hax boot !
I read over the FAQ for what CFW is best for me which led me to two tutorials to upgrade from either menuhax or A9LH, but how do I tell which one I am on!

Please help!

Thanks

T

P.S. If I upgrade will all of my backups be deleted?

That's MenuHax and rxTools. For a new user, I'd recommend going with the holy guide (aka https://3ds.guide) and once you're familiarized with the 3DS and 3DS hacking, feel free to try out Corbenik if you so wish.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! from what I am gathering, I should boot my into my sysnand with hax enabled (from the RX tools menu) and proceed to install A9LH and Luma?
I am saying to boot with hax enabled to skip the process of having to use browserhax

lol, he just stated he was a noob where CFW and stuff was concerned.

This is yet another CFW for the 3DS. It's a lot like cakes in that patches are separate from the CFW itself, and a great deal of inspiration (as well as the FIRM decryption code) comes from Cakes.

This allows for much greater flexibility than Cakes, while working with near anything like Luma/ReiNAND. Corbenik is mainly intended for developers, power users and control freaks, not newbies. It is highly experimental, and may not work correctly in all cases.

"Once you're familiarized with the 3DS and 3DS hacking" aka "when you are no longer a noob", feel free to try out Corbenik "if you so wish" aka "if you want something other than Luma". I don't see any issue with my post at all, nor do I find anything funny with it.

You're on menuhax. If you're just playing games, I'd recommend switching from RXtools to Luma and leaving menuhax installed, you can always switch to A9LH in the future if you need to. However, if you have about an hour and a half to kill, and you don't mind the risk of bricking your system, A9LH will give you a quicker boot up and a few other perks as well, like not having to install GBA games twice.

Isn't A9LH brick-free with the SafeA9LH installer -_-.

I will have some time to kill after my exams this week. Prepping to do the A9LH. Just wondering how I would transfer the games to Luma?

I installed A9LH last week on an O3DS after using RXTools and Gateway Menuhax for years. Got to say A9LH is far superior, so much simpler. It takes a bit of work but if you work through the instructions a bit at a time, in the right order you should be fine. I did mine over a course of a few days on and off. The only thing you need be concerned about is old DS compatibility if you have a R4/DSTwo Supercard or equivalent but there is a section in the FAQs of https://3ds.guide on what files to replace should you find that not working.
