I have a LaCie Porsche Design P'9233 USB 3.0 3TB Desktop Drive and I wanted to try to put both gamecube and wii games on it so that I could have a large amount of storage space for games. It does not seem to be working however it is not being detected with USB Loader and so nothing shows up be it gamecube or wii games. I have tried using both wii backup manager and wbfs manager which both put on the games but the hard drive is not recognized still. any tips on what i could do?

This makes me curious, how many GBs does the entire Wii collection take up? How many for GameCube?

My setup has every pre-2000 game + about 300 Wii/GC games and takes about ~500GB total.

For GameCube: (untrimmed)
383 GB for the entire Japanese market
616 GB for the entire European market
759 GB for the entire American market
899 GB for one region's release of every game
~1.8 TB for every region's release of every game.

For the Wii: (untrimmed)
2.2 TB for the entire Japanese market
5.0 TB for the entire European market
1.1 TB for the entire Australian market
5.9 TB for the entire American market
7.8 TB for one region's release of every game
~14.1 TB for every region's release of every game.

For WiiWare: (guesswork) (excluding VC)
~11 GB for the entire Japanese market
~15 GB for the entire European market
~18 GB for the entire American market
~23 GB for one region's release of every game
~44 GB for every region's release of every game.

For Wii Virtual Console: (guesswork)
~1.9 GB for the entire Japanese market
~1.6 GB for the entire European market
~1.2 GB for the entire Australian market
~1.4 GB for the entire American market
~200 MB for the entire Korean market
~2.0 GB for one region's release of every game
~6.3 GB for every region's release of every game.

Mikemk, nice! Where are you getting these numbers?
For the GameCube and Wii disks, I looked on Wikipedia to see how many had released in each region and multiplied by 1.35 GB and 4.7 GB.
For the WiiWare, I did the same, but guessed an average size of 50 MB each
For the VC, I did it by system, NES, SNES, ...

But why would you try to put every game ever released on your HD other that to be able say "I have every GC/Wii game in existence!"
Personally I would be happy just to have enough space for every game that I like, and I can probably accomplish that with a 512GB HD, maybe even with just 256GB.

And by the way, if you convert your Wii games from ISO to WBFS, it significantly reduces their file size. 2D games like Muramasa and NSMBW in particular go from 4GB to less than 0.5GB.

A better question is: What is the combined filesize of every Wii and Gamecube game released in one region with average reviews of at least 6/10? Just to cut out all the shovelware.

My Dolphin games folder is only 174 GB, but that is trimmed and compressed

That's much hard to figure out.
