I think that's just a replacement for the amiibo costumes, they pretty much completely got rid of them all in the 3DS port.

Well that's definitely weird. If they were to cut mystery mushrooms they should have cut it from the 3DS's level editor, not just leave it in there and simply make your costume Mario again.

saves those stages where you need to be small mario and be able to break blocks from being unavailable, perhaps wii u levels with mystery mushrooms may default it to that

an hour ago, the guy how did this video tell me he just put a propeller mushroom inside a block (nsmb wii u graphics) and change to Smb graphics, and the mushroom change to mystery mushroom, but he said that he update his game and the save was deleted so, he did this in the first version of the game with no updates

you don't understand right? the glitch uses the weird mushroom but the game CHANGE the weird mushroom to a mystery mushroom and after return to normal TAKE A LOOK ON THE VIDEO FIRST

Well we already know the mystery mushroom is in the game since it shows used in the game images.

If it really does just overlay a new spriteset over mario that just looks like his original look, we could edit the texture and make it any amiibo costume

That's the Wii U version of the game. When you switch in and out of the editor on the 3DS, the bottom screen goes black and the game will play on the top screen.
