Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Become Fastest Selling Games in Nintendo History

Nintendo 3DS Games Sold 3.7 Million Units in Less Than Two Weeks:

After becoming the most pre-ordered video games in Nintendo history, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon – the latest games in the wildly popular Pokémon franchise – have now become the fastest-selling games that Nintendo has ever launched in the Americas. In less than two weeks, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold a combined total of 3.7 million units. That’s an 85 percent increase over Pokémon X and Pokémon Y – the previous record holders for Nintendo’s fastest-selling games – during the same period when those games launched in 2013.

“With these huge sales figures, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have proved themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pokémon series are sure to please any player in the family.”

All Pokémon-related software has sold more than 280 million units* worldwide since launching with the Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version games in 1996. The Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version games are both available for download in Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. Other notable launches in the Pokémon series include Pokémon X and Pokémon Y (15.64 million games sold globally life-to-date), Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire (13.18 million games sold globally life-to-date).

In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Trainers-in-the-making head to the game’s new Alola Region – a series of tropical islands – to catch, battle and trade Pokémon. By discovering new Z-Moves, Pokémon can unleash powerful attacks in battle. The new Poké Ride feature allows certain Pokémon to help people get to places they wouldn’t be able to reach by using human strength alone. In addition to three new partner Pokémon, players can catch a host of new Pokémon, as well as the unique regional variants of some familiar favorites.

I didn't see that, when was it confirmed?
Not necessarily the nes mini, but the Famicom mini has indeed been hacked. There just aren't enough nes mini units to go around for a person to verify if the same hack works on that one though. But no reason to believe it wouldn't.

does this include the digital copies? if so, what did they count, the purchase, or the downloads\installed games? cuz everyone had been getting it for free from nintendo servers, and thoose leaks had plenty of installs...
it's funny, the games that i will skip (lost interest since the 6 gen, however i have all 6 gen games) are the ones that get a record for fastest game sold
You're mistaken if you think even 1% of 3DS users have access to CFW/piracy. people here on GBATemp are in the extreme minority. Just spend some time on a game like Animal Crossing. Everyone I've ever met has no idea how to hack their 3DS. Also, All my friends and family that have 3DSs don't know how to hack them either and don't even want to try.

And i hope this is the last ever pokemon game and TV SEASON and movie whatevers.
No, theres one coming for the switch. And why? Nintendo and GF will be pushing out Pokemon games for as long as they live. These games are super flexible. They could make it in space on the moon region and people will eat this up.

Also hope we can get new F-Zero or Metroid game worthy of suceeding super metroid and new kid icarus game :P
Hell no. I want more Pokémon games. I don't care about any TV or movies, though. Though a Metroid would also be cool.

If people only knew what other great things they could do instead of sponsoring Ninty and their cow. In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is King, true indeed.
What are you salty for? I've already had dozens of hours of fun out of Pokemon Sun and Moon, I felt I got my money's worth. At the same time and in the same timeframe, I've had a blast with Final Fantasy XV, Battlefield 1, replaying the Batman: Arkham series, modding up Skyrim, relaxing with Stardew Valley, blowing through Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice and maybe a game of Rocket League. What are you getting at? Let people have fun with their games instead of thinking you're "enlightened" or something and know the One True Path To Salvation™.

Hoping it's the last is the most futile hope one could have seeing how... well, how this game had flabbergasting sales.

I just hope we get gyms back.
I don't. Gyms got boring, and cheap. The challenges method switches things up and at least is more interesting than the gyms mentality was for me. I appreciate this change.

I also appreciate how finally battle animations are fast enough to leave on, and that the game's input lag is at last on par with the GBA games.

Frankly, I don't want gyms to be forever gone, but I'll admit Sun/Moon's approach was refreshing.

Pokémon is making a lot of money so clearly it's the devil.

Pokémon is making a lot of money popular so clearly it's the devil something edgelords must despise to be seen as edgy.
Not so much a fix, but an alternate take. :P
@T-hug do note that these 3.7 million are ONLY NA sales and do not include Nintendo eShop sales.
Europe pulled in 1.5 million as well, not too shabby. No clue what Japan did.

Hopefully these runaway sales will have some lasting impact on the 3ds's twilight months/years and it trickles down to the homebrew scene, which is what I care about most.

Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Kirby

The four biggest IPs have been really successful over the years!

Mario Maker, Link Between Worlds, Sun and Moon, and Planet Robobot. These games really make me smile! Just comes to show that Nintendo is doing fairly well with these games! Though a Nintendo console was not my first game console, a handheld one was! Since then, the Dreamcast (my very first console) disappeared, the PS1 broke, and my GameCube currently lives on. The GCN was the only console That I own over 2 games! Loved Pokémon, loved Mario, loved everything about Nintendo! Sorry, Sony. You have your amazing GTA games, but Nintendo became my most beloved video game companies!

Not at all by much. As somebody else said in this post hackers are the minority.
