is there any way to keep 2 files with the same name and same extension !? (windows 10)

Heya fellas, i would like to know whether it is possible to do so because , well i have downloaded a backup of a wii u game, and it came with 2 files of the same name and extension and it automaically renamed them when i finished downloading them e.g :

0000001b.app / 0000001B(1).app , it automatically put a '(1)' next to the xxx1B.app

is there a way to copy and keep both with the same name/extension ?

both are over 500mb in size and i am sure both are required to be installed in order for the game to work.

I've never heard of anything having the SAME file name in the same folder and are the same size. I think your download might be bad. I would re download if you can. If not the wup installer y has fail checks in place to prevent bricks.

sorry, they are actually not the same size !

just the name and extensions are the same except for the 'b' is in caps on the other file.

their like 0000001b.app / 0000001B(1).app and in the MEGA folder (from where i downloaded it) the names are 0000001b.app / 0000001B.app

for some reason i think that mac os thingie allows you to have the same names.

i rechecked and it is like i say files are 0000001b.app / 0000001B.app
one is 513mb the other 519mb

It's because Microshaft's filesystem is so broken that it can't tell the difference between upper and lower-case letters. You could try switching to a filesystem that isn't broken, like ext4 or btrfs, but I don't think those will work on Windows.

alright guys, i wrote in the thread about it and it seems that the op had it wrongly placed or something and told me to delete one of the files and redownload some other file instead.

Even if the OP did this, it wouldn't allow the use of both files simultaneously. If a case-sensitive filesystem were to be used, then only one of the files (the one which matched the case used in the path when opening the file) would be accessed. The other one would be ignored in this situation.

You probably already know this, but I'm just clarifying in case anybody else reads this thread and misunderstands.

do your homework next time. NTFS has it's issues but Case Insensitivity ain't one of them.

I guess it's a lot worse than I thought, then. Seems like it won't matter what filesystem you're using, Windows just won't let you open a file if there's another file that only differs in case.

Yea, the problem is Windows itself and Windows applications. but when you use Linux, you actually can mount NTFS with the posix=1 flag and use an NTFS partition as case-sensitive, not that there is any reason to do this when EXT4 and BTRFS exists.

I believe cygwin (on Windows) will allow case-sensitivity if you flip a flag in a configuration file somewhere (GIYF). Just make sure you don't try to use Windows explorer to do anything with the files if they otherwise have the same name

yes, that is true; Windows gets in the way of NTFS's own case-sensitive support so explorer is all confused about what is going on when trying to mess with files that have the same name when parsed as case-insensitive
