Hacking Guide To Blocking PSN Updates (And PSN in general)

If any of you are like me (On firmware 3.50, 3.55, etc. Do not tell me what you are on because I could care less) then avoiding PSN can sometimes be tricky. I have made 2 guides one is simple (Unsure) and the other is a bit harder, but ensures you won't be updated.

Guide 1:

Spoiler: SIMPLE

1. Disable internet connection.
2. When you are done playing unplug from wall outlet.
3. Profit.
Yeah this is pretty much fool proof.

Guide 2:

Spoiler: BEST METHOD

1. Download DDWRT.
1a. OR if you know how to block DNS from your default router settings go there.
2. Block these URLs

3. Now whenever you try to sign in to PSN an error should occur. If you ever need to use PS Proxy or anything PSN related remove the URLs. Internet still works though so that is a plus!
4. Profit.

These methods will help anyone who is a bit unsure. Hope this helps some people on firmware versions waiting to hack!

Why not just install CFW right away?

I am saying when the exploit is released CFW, piracy, and much more will be possible. Currently it is just a dream, but if we could fully decrypt SEMU then piracy wouldn't be such a dream.

Or you could just disable auto-updates and auto-downloading on your PS4. It will not update without your permission.

Actually it will still download them. I am pretty sure @Cyan had this problem.

Hasn't downloaded for me. When I turn it on and try to use any PSN service, it'll prompt me to download the update, but I can simply press on "Do Later".
All you need it common sense, really.

Put your PS4 in rest mode and leave it. A lot of people tend to use the rest mode option. Also if the PS4 detects you not using it then it starts. Even though you claim that this works I know you still have a bit of uneasiness in you.

My PS4 has been in rest mode for days. Just turned it on right now. Still on 4.05 and with no update downloaded. This isn't like the Wii U where it auto-updates.

? Many developers and users of PSXHAX use this method, they aren't paranoid. A bit rude if you ask me.
Go here. Click on the questions and see how many people are having their PS4 console's update when told not too. Also see how many people are saying there is no way to avoid this.

Anyways, I decided to click on your link and actually read though most of the first two pages of Google. You should learn how to read better. All of them referred to game updates, not system updates.

It doesn't matter what updates. it just proves my point that the option doesn't have any effect.

When you think about it if a game tries to update on a older firmware it forces the console update to download as well. On latest FW it forces game updates even if you don't want it.
