How do I make a wireless router reboot at a certain time every 24 hours?

the title should say enough, but to clarify, I'd like to make something or find some way to have my router reboot itself every night at 3AM, because Netflix on a single smart TV is enough to slow my download speed to mere bytes per second. and when it's on 24/7, things can get ugly. maybe this is wrong of me, but damn it, I don't even use the smart TV. I just use my laptop, and my entire week of "TV" comes in the form of a single episode of Dragon Ball Super, which, I can't watch anymore because of shitty speed. so, since I don't want to make a "USB Death stick" to kill off that damned TV for good, this is just about my only option. considering if I get in the way of my wife (whom I love very much) and her TV, I'll have a dagger in my gut... yeah.

If there is no setting for this in your router you could use a timer socket or however it is called ... to switch the power of for a short time.
else if your computer is online you could allways use a clickbot to press the reset button on the device homepage.

maybe you could even somehow make a small programm that gives the reboot command without going to the page but I wouldn't know how without looking further into it.

Easiest and most reliable way: Buy a power socket timer.
Slightly more complex way that may or may not work depending on your router: Create a script to connect to the router over telnet and reboot it, and add it as a scheduled task on your PC. Requires your PC to be on every day at the scheduled time though.

Depending on the router, it may be possible to create a script and use crontab to schedule the reboot.

This should be doable at least on WRT based routers (e.g. Asus routers running the merlin variant) but I've never tried it myself.

What wireless router do you have?

It's possible to do that if you have custom firmware such as DDWRT or Tomato on your router.

Timer sockets and the like or router functions would be the way I do it.

If your router does not have such functionality and you can't reach out and touch it from some other device you have then you might also have the functionality to disable the wifi on a timer in the router (wifi available from blah to blah under the same sorts of menus you have bad parental controls which you might also be able to use parental controls to disable access to a given mac/host name between certain hours, guest networks and whatever else). Probably won't help much if it is the chip overloaded and needs a restart (previously people would want to do this for torrents when the 900 peers they were connected to would cause the router to throw a wobbly) but an option if that is not it.

If your router does not have the functionality then a possible option 2. Buy one that does and make a secondary access point upon which you can put the offending items. Sell it noting the "wifi" speed is demonstrably bad and as things should all function fine as is then all should be good. Hopefully you don't live in a small flat.

it's some bizarro Router/Modem Combo made by VisionNet. I'd leave my PC on all the time, IF we had a desktop, but we don't. we've got like 20 Laptops though. I have a love/hate relationship with the HP laptop I use as my main rig. not the beefiest of Rigs, but it's the beefiest one we've got.

small flat? I wish. then I'd have neighbors. Try a house in the middle of the rural southeast of the US. and then make it more Rural. my closest neighbor is nearly a mile away.

also, I've been considering getting a dual band router and a modem so as to (hopefully) take some pressure off the bandwidth. have the TV connect to the 2.4 GhZ band, and the Computers connect to the 5 GhZ band. but, being a poor farmer I can't really afford to drive 50 miles to best buy to get a $200-300 router, when my Truck gets 9 MPG on a GOOD day. I literally grow my own food. and raise the meat. it's sad really. Wife pays the bills since she's a teacher, I just handle the food. and the cooking. and the cleaning.

i used to have a similar problem it turned out some asshole had wired my house with shitty old thin RG-58 after replacing all the coaxial with some decent thick RG-6 i haven't had a problem since.
it was a little bit of work took like 3 hours total but it didn't cost that much to replace the stuff is like ten cents per foot.

assuming you have cable internet go through and check that all the coaxial cable between your modem and the pole are RG-6 it could be a simple small piece like the modem to the wall or the switch outside. or it could all be inside the walls like mine was. also don't use a cable surge protector.

if that isn't the problem and it really is your router get a new asus mine works a solid 200foot away runs 24/7 and i have a ton of devices on fast internet.

no, we got DSL. nobody around me even OFFERS Cable internet. I sadly have no idea how good cable internet is supposed to be.

At least you get DSL... We're more than 8KM from the nearest booster station so we have wireless internet *cries in corner*


But really, just get an outlet timer. They're dirt cheap, and you can just set it to shut off the router at 4am.
