Hey guys,

As the title says I want to hack my Wii U. I don't have any experience with hacking outside the 3DS scene. I never hacked my Wii because I was scared of bricking it. I would watch video tutorials but sometimes they are outdated. So can you tell me:

What to I need?
How do I hack it?
Is it safe?
What version do I need?
What can I do after hacking it?

Thank you for anyone who helps this newbie.

(If you have a tutorial that is up to date you can link it here)

5.5.1 is best and latest firmware
It is safe for the most part
You need an sd card. 16 gb for a white wiiu and 64 gb for a black one
Region free, use legit tickets, Retroarch, and even rednand
To launch hax just
Download the Homebrew Launcher
Download HB App Store
Go to loadiine.ovh on your wii u and click submit.
Also go to dns settings and put these 2 dns. That will stop the wii u from autoupdating.
First 107.211.140.065
Second 104.236.072.203
Why do I need to have different SD Cards for different Versions of the Wii U? And is that a recommended amount of GB or do I really need that much?

Rednand is a 1:1 copy of your nand. It copies all the data including data in system memory. The white wii u is has a 8 GB nand and a black wii u has a 32 GB nand. You need extra data on the sd card to install games so it is 16 for white and 64 for black.

Also you only need the 16/64 if you want to use rednand. If your just using retroarch and other homebrew then you only need at least 8 GB

Have you hacked a 3ds and installed emunand? Rednand is similar.
It reads a nand dump from your sd card and loads it.
From their you can install unsigned games that don't have tickets.
You can region free it with regionhax.
Most games can be installed with legit tickets and don't need rednand but some (dlc and eshop) need rednand to be pirated

Nope I don't have emunand so thats why I didn't know about it. So rednand is only for DLC and stuff?

So to install I just put the Homebrew Launcher on the root of the SD card and go to loadiine?

You put homebrew launcher and hb app store (to download homebrew) and then go to loadiine.ovh on your wii u. Press submit on the page. A video should popup then go and your booted into homebrew

I did that but it said FBMountSource Failed. Did I forget something? My Wii U is on 5.5.1 and I did put everything on the SD Card.

FBMountSource Failed is usually a bad SD, or wrong format.
reformat your SD card, be sure it's FAT32 and not ExFAT.

what you can try is to not put anything on your SD card. (no homebrew launcher)
Visit http://wiiubru.com/go with your WiiU browser and follow the instructions, it will launch the homebrew launcher (or the app store) from internet instead of your SD. from here, download all the homebrew you want to install to your SD card.

for games, you have two different mode :

Loadiine (a homebrew loader, reading games files located on SD)
WUP Installer (you install the games to your console, using an official ticket)

I suppose you want the second one.
the ticket is like a certificate that you own the game. it's used to allow game installation and launching on your console. when you buy a game on eShop it install a ticket.
A ticket is also present on game discs, and are the same file than the ticket provided by eShop (except it works on all console, it's not tied to the console buying the game on eshop)

To install to your system (also called sysNAND), you need the official ticket, and that file is illegal to share on this website.
there are website sharing it, but you'll have to find it yourself.

Another way is to install the games to a custom firmware. It has signature check disabled and let you use a fake ticket.
It's harder to setup as you have to know more about your console, homebrew and hacking.
I don't recommend it for the moment.

So, what you want is a way to download the games from eShop, and "find" a ticket to install your downloaded game.
You should read and follow this guide, it will tell you what to do. Just don't care about "cfw" and "rednand".

Jup I just found all that out myself. I already installed Isaac on my SD Card to load it on Loadiine. Thanks anyways!

Nice, you found what you wanted.

Lot of people moved from loadiine to internal install when it became possible, for conveniance and for load speed (some games have very long load time and lag in games, mario 3D world, hyrule warrior, bayonetta)
But loadiine allow a little more features, like multi-save, dlc and region free without editing your system files, ease patches like gamepad mod or HID support, cheat code, etc.

so, for the moment the trend is to install games, but maybe later it will be back to loadiine (in case it become compatible with FAT32 HDD I'm sure everybody will come back!)
