Bethesda is letting anyone with a ps4 or a pc play the Elder Scrolls online free this weekend . starting tomorrow . they are calling it an "extended " weekend . don't know why . but hey who cares . free is free.

the free play period is Nov 16-20 . the play peiod starts at 12:01 am for ps4 users . steam users can jump in at 1:am ET.

Bethesda also said a free weekend for the XBOX ONE will be revealed "soon"

The Elder Scrolls Online does not require playstation plus(yay)

more random stuff about the free weekend
  • Access to the full The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited base game
  • 500 Crowns to spend in the Crown Store on fun costumes, unique pets, helpful scrolls, and more
  • Any characters created, Crown Packs purchased, or Crown Store items bought, as well as any progress made during the free play weekend, will carry over if the player purchases the game.

they overdid it huh? I'm planning to try it out on steam.
They didn't overdo it, they just still haven't finished it, and as style has changed, there's sortof a disconnect in different areas of the world. And since reach region was built separately, they have huge obvious seems (aka mountains)

  • Make some friends
  • Try to avoid populated areas, treasure chests and resources are publicly harvested and take a while to respawn.
  • There's a chest in the bank in the city you start in which can be fairly profitable at low levels. Don't get caught. There's also some soul gems some idiot NPC left lying around in Riften. These spawn quickly, a 2-3 minute loop. They're also well known, so expect competition.
  • Guards are immortal. Don't try to kill them. Or pickpocket them.
  • The main quest lets you advance after set levels, so focus on side quests.

it's also an 80GB download if you want both NA and EU, since you have to download the game twice to have both regions

So, 40GB base game + 60GB updates or 40GB base and 60GB after updates?
Both. Steam downloads the launcher and the original game files from several years ago, the launcher then redownloads the current version of everything.

Also, really long load times, so I recommend installing on a SSD if you can spare the space.

Holy carp, those MMORPGs are getting crazy these days. Better start looking into some Fiber connection ASAP
Think a Skyrim-sized Elder Scrolls game (Hmm... such as Skyrim!)
Now multiply the land area by 5. That's about the size of ESO.

Steam says "Partial Controller Support"

That's good. Then again I'm learning quickly that Steam can't be trusted when it comes to controllers. The original Skyrim claims it's a keyboard/mouse only game but works perfectly with a controller. That said I'll give this game a shot.
