Hello all,

As the title says, I'm currently using ReiNAND on 11.0.0-33U, but I'd like to download the new Hyrule Warriors DLC (bought the season pass) and to do that I'd need to update to the current firmware version. I've heard talk when the FW was released that it breaks NTR, but I don't know what that is or if I'd ever want to use it. From what I've seen in the 10 seconds of googling I've just done is it's its own CFW with cheat support but no backup support? I don't think I'd want to use it, if that's the case.

Basically, I'd like to know just what I'll be unable to do if I were to update right now. I'm also curious to know if ReiNAND is considered a dead CFW and people would recommend moving to a more active one. If so, what would I gain from switching CFWs? How difficult is the process?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

If you using emunand/(a9lh) sysnand you just update. Nothing is lost. But i would warn you that reinand is outdated and certain games won't work with it. (If you update to luma3ds all games will work) Update to Luma3ds by using this zip https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/download/v6.5/Luma3DSv6.5.7z
and this guide
  • Always copy arm9loaderhax.bin to the root of the SD. You don't need to do anything else if you're using ARM9LoaderHax.
  • If you're using menuhax/browserhax/any other *hax that displays the Homebrew Launcher, also copy the contents of the hax folder to the root of the SD.
  • If you are using menuhax and want to boot Luma3DS directly without a boot manager/the Homebrew Launcher, also copy the boot.3dsx from the menuhax folder to the root of the SD, overwriting the existing one.
  • If you're using browserhax without the Homebrew Launcher, or the mset (System Settings) hack, also copy the Luma3DS.dat from the mset-spider folder to the root of the SD.
  • If you're using the mset (System Settings) hack, also copy the Luma3DS.nds from the mset folder to the SD of your DS flashcart, and run it to install the ROP.
As for NTR use bootntr selector which autoupdates (normally works on latest firm a few days after it is out). https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-bootntr-selector.432911/

Oh, does Luma use A9LH? Also, is it known which games won't work with ReiNAND, because I've never had any difficulty running games. Will I be unable to switch CFWs, or make it more difficult to do so, if I update ReiNAND now and leave switching CFWs for later, if ever? Basically, I'm paranoid to take any risks in terms of lost data, lost functionality, or bricking my console by making a CFW switch unless there's some immediate and significant benefit to doing so. So, what will Luma allow me to do that ReiNAND cannot? Will I be making things more difficult for myself later on if I don't make the switch now?

Alright, I forget what method I'm using to boot into reiNAND, but I have a boot.cfg in the root of my SD card that looks like this:

boot_config :
{
timeout = 15;
autobootfix = 8;
recovery = 2;
default = 0;
entries = (
{
title = "ReiNand";
path = "/ReiNand.dat";
offset = "0x12000";
},
{
title = "HomeBrewMenu";
path = "/boot_hb.3dsx";
},
{
title = "Reboot";
path = "reboot";
},
{
title = "Shutdown";
path = "shutdown";
} );
theme :
{
bgTop1 = "4a0031";
bgTop2 = "6f0149";
bgBottom = "6f0149";
highlight = "dcdcdc";
borders = "ffffff";
font1 = "ffffff";
font2 = "000000";
bgImgTop = "/yourimage.bin";
bgImgBot = "/yourimage2.bin";
};
};

Would it be possible to add Luma3DS.dat from the mset-spider folder in the zip provided above to the root of my SD card, add a
title = "Luma3DS";
path = "/Luma3DS.dat";
offset = "0x12000";
line to the boot.cfg and boot into Luma3DS using the same method I've been using? On that note, how is it that I can actually tell what method I'm using? My guess is menuhax, but again, I've completely forgotten.

I honestly say get a9lh. It is super quick and easy (and on new3ds, mostly harmless).

Wait, does Luma3DS not use A9LH? I assumed A9LH worked as a part of Luma3DS because of the arm9loaderhax.bin that came in the .zip as well as Luma's reported A9LH compatibility. Do I need to chose one or the other?

Luma does support A9LH. It's recommended if use the 2 together.

Alright, so I guess my final question is, how do I tell what kind of hax I'm using? Since I launch a ReiNand.dat file, is it safe to assume I'm using browserhax and proceed accordingly?

EDIT: After looking about, it turns out I'm using ctr boot manager which would mean I'm using menuhax, right? If that's the case, then why would I not need the Luma3DS.dat file since it seems like I need the ReiNand.dat file for my current setup? I'm sorry for all the questions, but I want to completely understand what it is I'm doing before I actually change anything.

I really don't know how to respond to this question. So here's a thread that might help your current endeavor https://gbatemp.net/threads/faq-what-cfw-is-best-for-me.428509/
