DQ9 is already here. It's on DS. Unless there's some sort of 3DS port I haven't heard about. It's a fun game.

DQ10 is unlikely to get localized. It's an MMO, which means a lot of localization work, and the series isn't super popular over here. The projected sales probably aren't worth the time and money necessary to localize the game. Personally, I'm not particularly fond of MMOs, especially subscription-based MMOS, so I'm not too broken up about this.

DQ11 will almost certainly get a localization. It's a flagship title, which Square-Enix hasn't been skipping out on over here. In fact, I'm pretty sure S-E is doing a better job with Dragon Quest localizations than Enix ever did alone.

If you have a Vita or PS4, you might want to check out DQ Builders and/or DQ Heroes.

I'm looking at getting VII. I've played the first 3 when they came out. and I love the dragon quest monster lineup (only played 1 and 2, though now that 3 has a translation patch I'll be playing that)

How is the tutorial for VII. I heard it was ungodly long (like 2 hours before you get to a boss )

Thats bs the tutorial is awesome explains what you need to know, like also if you forget what to do you can open menu then go to info and itll give a short brief on what you have to do (in case you forget or get lost)

Please get this game its really the best rpg ive played in a long while.. i also was iffy like you got it and i just cant put it down
It does take like an hour untill you see battle but that hour goes by really fast because of how interesting the story is it pulls you right in ... i must say this is my fav game on 3ds and i love it so much that im going to preorder number 8 in 2017 and even get the older ones on DS to get a collection going 4,5,6,9 on DS and 7,8 on 3DS !

I just wanted to edit this in real quick
I just had a look on the european ebay and
some one had DQ V hand of the heavenly bride ds for 15€ used cartridge only tho but new was 49.99 so i went ahead and bought that one too... all because VII that just released for 3ds got me into dragon quest so yes hishagishi get VII for 3ds you will fall in love with the series like me

I've beaten IV and VI, personally, and played a bunch of V. Of the three, I think IV is the weakest and VI is the best. IV's story is divided up into chapters, one for each party member, one for the actual hero assembling the party and beating the villain, and one (added for the DS version) for an optional party member. V has the darkest plot, regarded by many DQ fans as the "best", and introduced the monster-collection mechanic to the series. VI introduces the class system used in VII, and has most of the human classes (only two or three monster classes, though). Because I like class systems and building character setups, I personally like VI the best.

VII has the longest start-up of all DQ games. Most of it is dedicated to world-building, foreshadowing, and introducing you to the characters who will form your core party for quite a while in the game. 2 hours to the actual first boss is actually pretty quick. 1-2 hours to the first battle is pretty normal. The pacing continues in that vein throughout the entire game, with the plot told in little vignettes and the greater overarching story revealed only at the end, though heavily foreshadowed during the game. If that sounds intolerable to you, perhaps skip DQ7. Otherwise, it's actually one of the best DQ games IMO, tied for second with DQ8.

Alright, playing DQ7 now. I kind of miss monster recruitment of the older games(the DQM lineup) and I really don't like the prince guy, his attitude is rather annoying. But thats to be expected of prince-lings I guess. The class system seems neat and I suspect I'll enjoy it, but I haven't gotten that far yet. (only on the second(?) island, the one with the volcano.)

I'll probably grab a copy of V and play that if I get bored of VII.

Edit: Oh, I love the party chat and the "Info" tab in the menu. Its lets you go back and see what you recently did and what you need to do next. Should be included in more games tbh.

I think IV is the weakest and VI is the best.
I (almost) agree. In comparison to V and VI, IV just seems a bit dull (story-, world- and character-wise), in my view.

V and VI are two of my favourite games of all time, and I have a bit of difficulty deciding between them. If pressed, I would probably choose V over VI, however. At any rate, I would recommend both to anyone interested in DQ on any level.

Ironically, IV is the first DQ i ever finished, after VIII.
IMO, VII and IX are the best ones, followed by the original Erdrick trilogy.

The very first one on the NES holds a special place in my heart. It was called Dragon Warrior back then here in the US. It was leagues above Final Fantasy. I also have spent hundreds of hours on DQIX and not competed the main quest yet.

I didn't care for 7 that much, seemed dated compared to 9 that was on a previous console.
