the Wii homebrew channel has a function to "install" new homebrew when sending a zip with dol/meta/icon in it.
it decompress the zip in /app/<name of the zip>/

vWii HBL doesn't have that function (yet? anyone could add it). It's only launching the elf as an easier way to code+test the homebrew without the need to copy to SD after every code re-build.

I can't seem to get this to work properly. Whenever I load it, I only see two apps and can't use a cursor if there is one, even though I have more on my SD card. The apps that show up load fine, but I want to load others. Any ideas?

I was on 5.3.2 spoofed to 5.5.1, and was hosting the files on my Android phone w/kws and it was working fine. Now I updated to the real 5.5.1 (per several users' advice), and it no longer works. Am I missing something? Does the HBL not work with 5.5.1?

Quick question; does anyone know if HBL is available as RPX yet? I heard Dimok had gone and ported it over to WUT (the toolchain that builds homebrew RPXs) but I wondered if he released it yet.

Hey, yes I checked it in a branch as its not complete yet since I am doing some other stuff right now. It boots from loadiine but does not launch any RPX yet and doesnt even load the list of the RPX yet (i am guessing a bug in WUT devoptab which i need to analyze further). What you will see though is the main window with the bubbles going up and the music playing. You can also press HOME for home menu and return to System Menu from it.

There's a bug where it seems every 2nd app in the "apps" folder don't show up. The trick is to make sure you have at least 5 apps in your apps folder (even if you just duplicate some you already have, doesn't matter). This makes HBL spill into 2 pages, and you'll have an arrow to go to page 2. When you press this, then press the arrow to go back to page 1, all your apps show up. Definitely a bug.

Hello all, I'm having a rather strange issue with the launcher installer.

I compiled it directly from source, no changes made at all. When I try to load it from my web server, the wii u crashes the instant it loads the "mp4" file.

I thought it might have been an issue with the compilation, so I decided to try the pre-built web server release files on github. Still causes a crash. Many other loaders out there (namely loadiine.ovh) work properly, so I don't understand what's going on with these particular files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys.

It's been a while since the last update. I used the version 1.2 RC3 a few times since I started working on the Wii U again and found several stability issues on the old version. So I addressed those and made a version 1.3 of the HBL which should fix the annoying freezes on launch especially when working with sendelf or wiiload. Some other minor changes were also done to address some other issues.

- filter homebrew launcher itself from the list of homebrews (issue 13)
- fixed random freeze caused from multi threaded access to elements list in a frame (issue 6)
- changed maximum depth of ELF file searching to 1 sub-directory only
- fixed wrong homebrew buttons order display in some cases (issue 15)
- don't allow a second wiiload/sendelf send if the first one just finished and is being started
- add font smoothing thanks to @Maschell

Can you host hbl with windows built in web server service since only one device is being used? Or good web server software called wamp?

as some of you may have noticed HBL in form of RPX can now be installed as a channel on redNAND using the NUSPacker and can exploit the WiiU PPC side from within the channel without the need of the browser to be launched. Now i am looking for a nice and fitting iconTex.tga, bootLogoTex.tga, bootDrcTex.tga, bootTvTex.tga and maybe even bootSound.btsnd and bootMovie.h264 (even though those will be harder) for a hbl channel. I am not an artist or anything and the best I can do is probably some crap pile with paint. It would be great if anyone could create those for us and share. It would help very much. Thanks ahead.

I am a Motion Designer/3D Artist and I'd love to help out on that part. Feel bad that haven't given anything back to this scene that has given me so much. Where can I get the specifications/limitations for the different formats? Think it's best if i leave the bootsound to someone else though...

Nevermind, found the files.

the bootMovie.h264 that i have here is around 80kb, 2,5 sec long and have a bitrate of just over 300 kbps. Resolution is 256x128. Does anyone know if any of these specs can be pushed? if so, how far?

It is possible to create a version for sysnand after the rednand version will be ready ?

Thanks. Ok, i see. Would be sweet if we in the future would be able replace the .tga images by .h264 animations.
Do you have more information concerning where the different images are used? Think I can guess where the "iconTex.tga" is used, but what about the others? No access to my WiiU atm, otherwise I would have checked myself.
