So I am getting a new PS3 system and I have an old hdd thats on cfw. If I put that in the PS3 will it launch CFW? If it asks me to update to the latest firmware can I put a CFW on my flash drive and put it in? Remember the HDD is fully on CFW. Thanks!

nevermind, misread. Pretty sure there's some console specific things that happen in order to launch Custom Firmware, so I doubt switching harddrives would allow Custom Firmware on any console.

As i understand it, if you clone the HDD with software, you can. I've never done it myself though, so I can't speak to how legit it is.

This is actually good. I am trying to experiment with CFW on newer firmware. I have a HDD that is pure CFW. What do you mean clone the hdd?

Sorry, I had misread :P I thought you were trying to put a new HDD in your ps3 and was wondering if you could just copy over the files and have the CFW work. Is what you're asking is if the CFW is just on the HDD and will launch on any ps3 you put it in?

Yes. I am positive the PS3 I will get will have the flash file of version 4.80 or 4.81. (Hopefully not 4.81 as there is no cfw for that). Since I know this I was wondering if I could update my already CFW hdd with a newer CFW that fits the flash files then use the 3.55 PUP downgrader.

If the new ps3 is on ofw 3.55+ (on NAND/NOR) it will not work. I'm pretty sure.

I don't think you understand. My circumstance is special because I already have a hdd with pure cfw on it.

Good luck, let me know if you succeed.

Anyone else here to ruin my day? tbh if you know the answer spit it clear out. If you don't know then wish me luck mates. I will still have to get a 3.55 compatible PS3 though.

Your only option is a 1000-2000 on 3.55. Those 2 models are also downgradable and a 3000 is dead weight.

Guys I am just gonna be honest with you. I am gonna buy a pre-cfw console. Too lazy to get a exploit. Sorry if people were excited for me to test it. XD

I might just sell my E3 flasher for a low price (In case anyone is interested ;) )

Well, if you will tak a cfw ps3 just format a new hdd and transfer your things to it later and reinstall pkgs. A lot of time but works.

No I am gonna get my new precfw ps3, upgrade it to rebug firmware then put in my rebug hdd. That will usually work right?

As said before, it maybe will be linked to previous ps3 and will not work but you can try. Who knows. Maybe it works but you will still need to reinstall pkgs to make the shortcuts to the multman and etc...

No.

Consoles that can be downgraded are.

NAND ( Progskeet or Teensy )
CECHA though CECHG

NOR ( Progskeet, teensy, e3 )

CECHH through CECHQ

CECH 20XX
CECH 21XX
CECH 25XX Manufactured before January 2011

You cannot swap hard drives without formatting.

CFW is located on the NAND if it's a NAND console, if it's a NOR console, than part is on the NOR the rest is on the HDD.

Cloning a hard drive or a file transfer will not get you CFW.
