Jumped into the world of rooting. Now what?

Long story short, I can't stand how bloated my Samsung Tab A. I'm also not happy that Samsung decided to drop the feature that allows micro SD card to be combined with internal so 16gb internal storage gets filled quickly and also not every app seems to like downloading to SD card. So I followed this guide:

And now I have TWRP and SuperSU installed. What I really want now is a stock Android experience with no bloat and also the ability to combine micro SD card with internal but I have no idea what's the next step.

Turns out installing using CF-Auto as stated on the FIRST PAGE ON GOOGLE doesn't work on the Marshmallow firmware and instead, just sends you into a bootloop on the Samsung logo. Luckily the button combo still worked and allowed me to go into download mode and reinstall the factory image.

I have TWRP installed and I downloaded a root checker app that says I am rooted so yeah, I guess I'm ready.

First things its to debloat your system, and secondly its to install an adblock.
If you want a minimal adblock, you can go with adaway or adfree, must be rooted for this, as for the debloat, you can use this:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp

Is it not possible to install a completely stock version of Marshmallow without Samsung's bloatware and unwanted apps? Figured that I might as well do stuff to it after I already formatted it.

Yes, if you got an image or an image exist for your device, you might as well flash it using oding or TWRP depending on the image, mind telling me the exact model of your device?

Had a look and it seems like it needs lollipop before installing. Didn't realise that installing custom rom isn't as simple as grabbing any files and installing it. I guess the Tab A wasn't popular.

Since Galaxy TAB A have several series, you need to find one that suits your needs, you can downgrade to lollipop without issues by just flashing XXU1AOJ1, and then rooting again and installing twrp, or you can go with a custom marshmallow, you could try CM13, which its lollipop, or look on XDA, you got the best support there.altough im not quite sure how stable it is on your device.

It really looks like custom roms for marshmallow tab a is kinda scarce. A shame since I honestly thought rooting would be the hardest part. Anyways, being able to delete Samsung bloatware is great but I just wish I could turn my Samsung into something like Nexus. An OS with next to no gimmicks.

that's an easy part, you can just replace the stock launcher, or install Cyanogen if you want some kinda of vanilla feeling.
You can try AOSP, AOKP, Slim, Cyanogen, among other "famous" distros. or even MIUI if available.

Silly question but can AOSP be installed on ANY tablet or does it need to be optimised for a specific tablet?

Each rom must be for a device mentioned, take for an example the Galaxy Note 4:

N910A its the AT&T Version, but the N910P its the Sprint version, thay dont match, unless the rom specifies it, or its an unified development, another example of the contrary would be the N910W8 which is the Canadian version of the Note 4, however, the N910T from T Mobile, are almost the exact same on every details, therefore, most N910T are compatible with the N910W8 ;D

Well I guess I'll have to stay with a rooted tablet. Any idea if a root means I can download and save things directly to the SD card instead of having to remove and insert into the PC to get more stuff?

there are apps to redirects the downloads, but to manage partitions you will have to mess with something a little bit more complicated, i USED to use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd
