So if I update to 3.60 PSP games won't work. I don't care too much about Vita games yet and I can wait until an official method for psp games on 3.60
So which firmware should I update to and be able to play psp games and emulators? Free method preferred or what is the cheapest? I don't have a PS3 or PS4.
Actually, if you manually update to 3.18, you'll be able to do what you need, no PS3 required.
how do you get a PSP game/demo on an old firmware without updating?
Simple! You just use the PKG Installer!
I'll admit, though, being on such a low firmware without a PS3 does put you at a disadvantage. However, getting a PSP demo on there isn't impossible!
Here's a step-by-step:
1.)
Manually update your Vita to 3.18:
Being on 1.80 isn't really doing you any good. Homebrew options are limited, and getting the PKG Installer to run is nearly impossible. However, 3.18 is hailed as the "golden" firmware (at least at the moment, until the ePSP hack for Henkaku/3.60 is released).
There's a handy guide right here on GBATemp on how to manually update.
I'll pick out the parts you need to follow out of that thread (credits to Denny64 for the helpful AiO package and update instructions):
Step 1: Download this All in One package on your PC:
MEGA
...
Step 7: Open QMCA on the PC => Settings => CMA Protocol Selection MANUAL => CMA Protocol Version FW 3.10
...
UPDATE TO 3.18:
Step 1: Click on Settings => Select Flight Mode => Reboot console
Step 2: Open QMCA and connect the Vita
Step 3: Paste the 3.18 PUP and your regions updatelist into C:\Users\XXXXXX\Documents\PSV Updates
Step 4: Click on Settings => System Update => Update by PC => Update 3.18 is ready to update click next.
Just
be sure that all prompts indicate that 3.18 is being installed. If it tells you it is installing a different version, and you proceed, you
will install that version!!
2.)
Download the PSP demo:
This is the demo that you will be installing to the Vita. It is a .pkg file, and you will need to download this file to the PC (copy and paste the link to your browser):
Code:
ares.dl.playstation.net/cdn/JP0604/NPJH90164_00/nXqnqm5PKphh6RojTASLwABJCDEOpEM6PLsRFMIFOeyc1fiLV1WGYe1R9NExqvwBknHiEqIjnGRySWflU1fx444y57F3dJoT41q4g.pkg
This is the demo of Danganropa. It is a DRM-Free .pkg file, which means the PKG Installer can be used to install it. It won't run, however, but it doesn't have to - it just needs to be installed.
3.)
Set up the Mail app:
While you're waiting for the .pkg to download, start setting up the Mail app (go ahead and setup the WiFi on the Vita if you haven't already; as a safety precaution, you may un-tick "Download Update File for System Software" under Settings > System > Auto-Start Settings). Open the Mail app, and log in to an account you can use to receive mail on the Vita. Note that Gmail can be a bit finicky about this, as it detects it as a malicious device for some reason. There is a setting on your Google account you will need to disable in order to log in to Gmail on the Vita, but a quick search should get you sorted out if you encounter this issue. I'm unsure if Yahoo is the same way.
4.)
Send the PKG Installer launch email:
On your PC, with your email client/website of choice, compose an email with the following in the body:
Code:
<a href="psgm:open?titleid=NPXS10031">Launch PKG Installer</a>
Send this email to the address the Vita is logged in to.
5.)
Prepare the .pkg for installation:
The .pkg file you downloaded earlier should be done by now. And since you should already have QCMA from the manual upgrade to 3.18, you should also already have the correct folder for the .pkg file in your Documents folder.
Move the .pkg file to:
Code:
C:\Users\<yourname>\Documents\PSV Packages
6.)
Install the demo:
Now, with the Vita plugged in to the PC, and with QCMA open (don't forget to right-click on the tray icon and refresh the database), open the Mail app on the Vita, find your email, and click on the link. The PKG Installer should launch. Click the option named "Content Manager Assistant," and you should see the .pkg hosted on your computer. Click on it and install it.
7.)
Back up the demo:
Finally, open Content Manager on the Vita, and backup Danganropa to the computer. For most ePSP guides, having this backed up is a prerequisite.
That just about covers getting a PSP demo on your Vita without a PS3. From here, you can do almost anything you need. I recommend you check out
Hackinformer's awesome Playstation Guide to see all the things you can do.
I personally recommend this one.
Have fun!
